Lenin always talked up democracy when the CPSU was still called the Social Democratic Labor Party of Russia. And then he came out with this statement on July 5, 1921.

Dictatorship is a state of intensified war.… Until the final issue is decided, the state of terrible war will continue. And we say war is war; we do not promise any freedom nor any democracy.

His version of democracy was of course “democratic centralism” with one party in control.

Concur, a very good read on this is: The Black Book of Communism, it is long but well worth your time. We must not forget the destruction and death that was brought by communism. Younger generations must understand this.
