Robert Reich: 4 Reasons Ted Cruz is Even More Dangerous than Donald Trump [Cruz is conservative]
Robert Reich ^ | 2/20/2016 | Robert Reich

1. Cruz is more fanatical. Sure, Trump is a bully and bigot, but he doesn’t hew to any sharp ideological line. Cruz is a fierce ideologue: He denies the existence of man-made climate change, rejects same-sex marriage, wants to abolish the Internal Revenue Service, believes the 2nd amendment guarantees everyone a right to guns. He doesn’t believe in a constitutional divide between church and state, favors the death penalty, rejects immigration reform, demands the repeal of Obamacare, and takes a strict “originalist” view of the meaning of the Constitution.

2. Cruz is a true believer. Trump has no firm principles except making money, getting attention, and gaining power. But Cruz has spent much of his life embracing radical right economic and political views.

3. Cruz is more disciplined and strategic. Trump is all over the place, often winging it, saying whatever pops into his mind. Cruz hews to a clear script and a carefully crafted strategy. He plays the long game (as he’s shown in Iowa).

4. Cruz is a loner who’s willing to destroy government institutions to get his way. Trump has spent his career using the federal government and making friends with big shots. Not Cruz. He has repeatedly led Republicans toward fiscal cliffs. In the Fall of 2013, his opposition to Obamacare led in a significant way to the shutdown of the federal government.

Both men would be disasters for America, but Ted Cruz would be the larger disaster.

You never go into a battle unless you have a good chance for victory UNLESS you can at least gain ground.

He stood a good chance to win Medellin vs The State of Texas. Heller vs DC was also a likely win.

Lawrence vs Texas was too much of a long shot.

Not that much of a longshot as 5-4 decision, or maybe he was looking for resume enhancing sure things. Sodomy laws had been on the books since before the founding of the country. He is either this great defender of the constitution or he’s not.

Trump and Cruz would be dangerous to the people who deserve danger.

The real reason he thinks he’s more dangerous is that he can beat Hillary.

All of which means Ted Cruz isn't going to be elected, and so won't be so dangerous to Rob Reich after all.

It's a rallying gimmick -- to point to some opposing politician and rouse your own people to panic -- that a lot of people use for fundraising.

It's also a way for liberals to appear clever: "You can talk about Reagan, but John Connally is the one you really ought to be afraid of" or "Sure, Bush and Dole are awful, but Alexander Haig is the guy who really gives me the willies," or "Rick Santorum is going to win and it will be awful."

Somehow it never worked out for those guys.

VERY good question. As a Cruz supporter I want to know why. I’ll try to find out.

As I was searching it was probably because it couldn’t be won. Losing Scalia is horrible.

So you’re an armchair lawyer. Are you a Monday morning quarterback and a chow hall combat planner as well?

No, but I’m also not the one campaigning for votes on the basis of being a champion of morality, defender of the constitution who fights against special interests.

Apparently Cruz, contrary to what he claims, only fights when he thinks he can win. That is very troubling; because if you won’t fight, you lose by default.
