Four boys in Chicago were wounded as they walked down the street, and a total of 17 people were shot in the city on Monday.
The shootings of the youngsters happened at approximately 9 p.m. when an unknown male approached and opened fire on the city's West Side.
The boys — aged 12, 14, 15 and 16 — were all in stable condition at local hospitals on Monday night.
No arrests have been made, but an investigation is ongoing, an official with the Chicago Police Department told the Daily News on Tuesday.

Nope. Believe it or not, there have been between 45-50 in a single weekend in Chicago in the not too distant past. And that was when Chicago still had a handgun ban in the city.
The deadliest weekends here in Chicago are the first few warm Spring weekends after a cold winter. There's a whole lotta pent up killin' needing to be done after a long cold winter it seems....

The burst of violence came after two consecutive weekends in which more than 50 people were shot for the first time in the four years that the Tribune has been tracking shootings. And in August, more than 40 were shot on four consecutive weekends.
In separate remarks, a clearly frustrated Mayor Rahm Emanuel and police Superintendent Garry McCarthy both emphasized their long-held beliefs that the proliferation of guns and lax gun laws are to blame for much of the violence.

Chicago has the lowest apprehension rate (if not one of the lowest) in the nation.
If you're going to murder someone, do it in Chicago. I don't remember exactly where I read it recently, but there's a less than 1 in 8 chance you'd be caught in Chicago.
