Windows 10. Are you using it, or is Microsoft using you? ;-)

You didn’t imagine that. Happened to 2 of my new laptops at the time and there was no way to go back to 8.0 without wiping out the entire drive and doing a clean install. 8.1 disabled quite a few controls for me that never worked and Lenovo or Microsoft never provided proper drivers to get it to work.

Whenever I run Windows Update, I keep seeing the Windows 10 “update” as an available one and it just happens to be selected for installation by default. Unchecking the selection box prevents it from being installed. If I left the box checked, it would get installed along with the other updates.

Quite a few people are experiencing the same thing it would appear. Why the urgent need to push everyone to Win10, I wonder? Some government mandate, perhaps?

Microsoft should start offering Windows 10 users the opportunity to upgrade to Windows 10. Now that would be funny.

Yet Microsoft appears to be devising ever more obscure methods to force users to “upgrade” to Win10 whether they wish to or not for some reason.
Why, I wonder?

There must be a reason why Microsoft is working so strenuously to force people to “upgrade” to Win10.
If only someone would explain it... :(

Windows 7 doesn’t have the Microsoft Store. Windows 10 does. Windows 10 gives Microsoft the opportunity to “up sell”. Google has the Play Store on phones. Apple has the Apple Store. Microsoft needs the Microsoft Store. Hardly anyone uses Windows Phones, so Windows 10 is really the only Microsoft Store venue. That’s why Windows 10 is being pushed so hard to Windows 7 users.

Because they stopped providing updates unless you upgraded to 8.1

“Im still running Win 7 here...”
same here. A Freeper gave me the link to GWX10 which monitors the w10 installations. It happened twice already but the app stopped it.

I have my home computer set up so that I only access the internet through a guest account which does not have any rights to install programs. If I need to go Admin I do it briefly and then go back to the guest account. Last count I have seen 15 attempts to upgrade unsuccessfully. Upgrade to Windows 10 Home Installation date: 9/8/2015 6:06 PM Installation status: Failed Error details: Code 80240020 Update type: Important Install the next version of Windows. I think they are being honest. Microsoft didn't intend for this to happen. It's just another Windows Update bug.
Never ascribe to malice etc.

If only someone would explain it... :( My guess is that Microsoft sees its future as a company that sells ad targeting to business. All those privacy violations in Win 10 let the company build up a picture of each Windows user as a consumer. If an operating system is also an advertising platform, there is more money to be made from targeted ads than from selling the OS.
Just a guess.
