I voted for Trump to destroy the GOP
CNBC ^ | 3-4-16 | Bruce Bartlett

We have a very serious political problem in this country. Our system of government works best when it is balanced between roughly equal political parties, one on the center-right and the other on the center-left.

Unfortunately, what we have is a centrist Democratic Party and a far-right Republican Party. Therefore, the system is out of balance, creating gridlock even as the public cries out for action on serious problems such as our deteriorating public infrastructure, epitomized by that in Flint, Michigan.

I believe that Republicans made a deal with the devil in 2009 when they embraced the Tea Party, a populist group who were just mad as hell and weren't going to take it anymore. In Congress, the Tea Party has been aggressive in destroying all the norms that made it work for more than 200 years.

The government was shut down, increases in the debt limit are constantly at risk, nominations to even the most minor administration positions are blocked and, now, the president has been denied the opportunity, which is his right under the Constitution, to name a new justice to the Supreme Court.

Flush with such "victories," extremists of all shapes and sizes were attracted to the Tea Party ranks—Christian religious fanatics, gun nuts, anti-gay bigots, nativists opposed to all nonwhite immigrants, secessionists, conspiracy theorists and, of course, racists.

What binds them together is hatred. Hatred of government, yes, but also hatred of liberals, minorities, homosexuals, non-fundamentalist Christians, environmentalists, feminists, and many other groups.

Another example of why we need closed primaries.

First and foremost, the delusion that destroying the GOPe would somehow make a more centralist party. Absolute utter fantasy - those who are bent towards a ‘more inclusive’ world by dictating every aspect of life by government are usually attracted by the Democrat party to begin with.

If their goal would be to ‘break gridlock’ by making a more accommodating Republican party, then they should be standing behind Rubio. He certainly represents the appeasement branch of the party.

Let’s be truthful; Trump’s effect in dismantling the GOPe only comes into play if he has not only the majority of delegates, but also wins. Because it is not just the faces of the GOPe that need to be countered, but all of their relatives embedded in all levels of government or working as lobbyists.

What would follow would be a far more centralist to right party (vs the left leaning populist party that exists today.) Of course, I don’t expect anyone who is so delusional as to describe Democrats as centralist and Republicans as far right to recognize this.

The democrat party stopped being a centrist party a long time ago, they aren’t even a center left party, they are a extreme left party, not much different than Bernie Sanders. The republican party, thanks to the infestation of neo-con artists has been pushed to be a center left party in practice, but a center right party only in words.

Centrist democrat party?

The author is obviously insane. Obama was voted the most liberal Senator by the National Journal in '07, and Kerry received that same honor back in '03. And oh yeah, those two just happen to be the last two Democrat nominees for President.

Fast forward to the Dems' 2016 candidates, Bernie and Hillary. They're about as "centrist" as Trotsky and Lenin.

So, does having one of two Democratic candidates as a declared socialist that honeymooned in the USSR qualify as being center-left?

Deal with the Devil? How about the hail-Satan left with its abortion and sodomy sacraments?

Anyone who perceives the Democrat party as centrist is living so far out of touch with reality, we can not possibly ever reach any kind of understanding apart from armed conflict.

Those who want a socialist or communist, anti-Christian society MUST either be willing to grant conservatives an amicable divorce so we can go our separate ways, or we MUST go to war with one another.

It really us that simple.

Now you really have to be delusional or ignorant to believe that.

What we have is a far left Democrat party and a liberal Republican elite running the show.

...what we have is a centrist Democratic Party

I stopped reading at this point. Reefer madness.

What we actually have is a far left, progressive liberal Democratic party that has an out and out, openly socialist candidate, and a (in the closet) Marxist candidate running for the DNC.

If this guy thinks that is "centrist," he must be smoking some awful powerful weed (hence the "reefer madness"). And that may well be because they think that sort of thing is just "peachy" as well.

If anyone went off the reservation it's National Review and this so-called "Stop Trump" or #NeverTrump minority movement of bedwetters, Twitter twits and purists who intend to stay home in November because they didn't get their way.
