ADUMBRATE [ad UM brate]

To adumbrate something is to foreshadow it. To give a hint of what is coming to pass.
The noun adumbration means a "faint sketch" or "outline."
The English prelate, Samuel Horsley, (1733-1806), a scientist become bishop, wrote of the visible phenomenon of the universe as "elegant adumbrations of 'sacred truth'."
Both words are from Latin adumbratus (sketched; by extension, shadowy, imperfect), past participle of adumbrare (to sketch, especially in words), based on prefix ad- (towards)plus umbra (shade, shadow), from which we get, among other things, umbrella.
Today’s word is reflected in a plethora of admonitions about various candidates for POTUS. Adumbrations are everywhere, even under your bed, no, especially under your bed.
Beware. Here be dragons.

That scene in ‘Scanners’ where the guy’s head explodes will adumbrate what it’ll look like when Hillary realizes she lost the election come this November.

I had a friend WOO HOOing me yesterday over trumps victory. I said oh ok, he will be the nominee. No good ending possible, so it’s irrelevant.
I would dearly love to see the Trumpbarts and others talk about this situation without using the words ESTABLISHMENT, gopE, ELITES, etc. Those hackneyed phrases have lost all meaning. the 60% voting NOT TRUMP is now the establishment.
I’m putting it on my resume. “Elevated to the Republican Establishment - 2016”
