A jury awarded $55 million to Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews in her lawsuit against a Nashville Marriott hotel on Monday.
Andrews sued the hotel alleging it acted negligently when allowing a man who was stalking her to book the room next to hers and surreptitiously film nude videos of her in 2008 while she worked for ESPN. The stalker, Michael David Barrett, posted the videos online and pleaded guilty to stalking charges, for which he was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

I am rubber and you are glue.
Whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you.
If you are going to mention "bouncing" then please consider Post #120 this thread.
Um, awarded is not the same as received and is spending ...
Hang on. I am not defending what happened to her. The expected privacy in a hotel room ought to be protected.
BUT the proportion here in the this civil case is absurd in my opinion. The perp was convicted. Did the business face criminal charges?
To me, this is overkill.
Actually her career was not doing fine. Her agent who was female dropped her because Erin always thought she should have made more money or got the better paying gig. The agent who was her friend dropped her because she could not please her no matter what she did. I got it straight from the female agents own mouth at a conference I attended where she spoke on the topic of “How to know when to terminate a relationship that was more trouble than it was worth.”
Do the Romneys still own Marriott Corp? Was it karma? /sarc
Shell never collect from the guy so the real award is 28 million from the hotel.
A $100,000 award wouldnt even get their attention. It costs them more than that to prepare for court.
Just because googles says it is Andrews doesn’t make it so. No way that is her, she is WAY more hippy and her nose has a hook on the end of it.
I don’t think that is her either
I just didn’t think it would be that easy a thing to do.
After reading one of the links, in depth, it seems there is more to this than just him stalking Erin Andrews. He said he did this to dozens of women. Why aren’t they suing for $75 million ?
Why isn’t she suing the guy who took the video ? (answer: he doesn’t have $75 million)
part of that can be found here:
While waiting for his room, Barrett said he went to the hotel restaurant, where he found a house phone that displays room numbers and called the operator.
Can I have Erin Andrews room? he recalled asking.
They connected me, Barrett continued. On the house phone it shows a room number, so I knew what room she was in.
Barrett went to the 10th-floor room and saw that a maid was cleaning the one next door, so he requested to stay there.
So I went back to the front desk and told them about the room, he explained. They went back and verified for me that it was ready, and they checked me into that room.
He knew hed been put next to Andrews, because he could hear her talking on the phone on his way in, he said. Their rooms were in an alcove, hidden from view by anyone standing in the hallway, Barrett said.

Because the world knows who this woman is and it damaged her career.
my wife and I and my little brother went to brick tops in Franklin tn tonight and we were discussing this
She said to get the lawyer and the camera ready for 55 million
Now just to find a good target hotel chain
He’ll lets go for Ritz Carlton or W hotels....nice deep silk lined pockets
General consensus outside of fembots is its excessive
Theres a peep hole in between neighboring hotel rooms ?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Everybody knows that.
“And they knew he was stalking her, how???”
Hotel’s are not allowed to give anyone a room number of a customer. They are supposed to call the room and ask if you know this person and if it is okay if they have your number. The hotel was completely at fault in this regard.
From reading the post on here, it appears that most people think it is perfectly fine to have someone tell a pervert where your wife, daughter, grand-daughter or what-have-you is. Then when the pervert takes video of them undressing, showering, etc, it should be okay. Just part of life. Let them post it on the Internet.
I get it. She is a celebrity so therefore she is automatically excluded from normal decency.... <s
For $55 million, this will go to appeal.
“For $55 million, this will go to appeal.”
I’m sure it will. The culprit who filmed her has to pay almost 30 of that 55 million. Obviously, he doesn’t have that kind of money. That wasn’t her point. Her point is to destroy his life like he almost did hers. I personally think it is fair.
There is a thing called privacy that was stolen from her. There are pictures and videos out there for her family, friends, old classmates, co-workers, neighbors, etc can see. She did nothing to deserve that type of treatment. She is a color commentator for a sports network. Harmless. This guy should be forced to either pay a sum or go to prison.
There is no doubt the hotel and the perv need some punishment, but throwing out $55 million is ridiculous. The perv should have gone to jail. He would have here in Colorado.
I don’t feel it’s ridiculous. He did serve jail time. A whopping 30 months. And had to pay her a whopping $7,688.00. That’s it.
She decided to “up the ante” as he and the hotels involved walked away completely unscathed. Celebrities have died due to stalkers. This guy got a high five from the court.
If they had thrown him in prison for 15 years and fined the hotel employees who broke laws in their own business, I’d be singing a different tune. That isn’t what happened though. She deserves a little retribution.
This is a fair award and compensation. If millions of people saw private videos of you and you were a public figure you would think it is fair too. The dude did his best to ruin Erin Andres life.
