K/T even and Chicxulub news. Bewdy!

Note: "...asteroid impact 66 million years ago that killed off the dinosaurs..." is still classified as speculation, as there is more than one simple theory that attempts to explain this event and many questions still present themselves when one looks into the facts surrounding their extinction(s).

3 meter long cores? That's pretty short. We were cutting 93 ft. cores 20 years ago.

They may be concerned about jamming the barrel or grinding up samples, though.

(lots of trip time for those hands...

Oh, and for those of you who are not experts in the field (such as moi) or who do not deal with the name on a daily basis, I have found that the best way to memorize the pronunciation of “Chicxulub” is “Chicks-Who-Lube”.

*grin*

The K/T Event, I leave up to your imagination... *snicker*

“By 1 April, the team plans to start drilling...”

I think I would wait a day to start drilling into something left over from an extinction event. I’d skip Friday the 13th too!

“asteroid impact 66 million years ago that killed off the dinosaurs...”

So now it’s 66 million years? 10-20+ years ago the talk was that it was only 65 million years ago. A million years isn’t exactly chump change, y’know?

“is still classified as speculation”

One of the hypocrisies of science, UFO’s are considered paranormal, yet some wild theory like this is considered to be fact by many scientists, along with black holes and global warming.

And the public laughs at UFO’s while sucking up this asteroid theory.

One of those reason is that the dinos were around for millions of years after the impact - I read that somewhere.

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/geologists-to-drill-into-heart-of-dinosaur-killing-impact/

The same story in Scientific American.

It is pretty amazing that a 14-kilometre-wide asteroid did so much damage.

Good for us, though.
