Cruz now tied with Trump in Louisiana! Over? ...It's NEVER over.
Red State ^ | March 6, 2016 | Moe Lane

Posted on 03/06/2016 2:37:18 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The Louisiana state GOP announced the current estimated delegate breakdown: Ted Cruz and Donald Trump both get 18, Marco Rubio gets 5. How is this possible, when Trump got more votes? Well, the popular vote count statewide was effectively a two-man race, as only Trump and Cruz got above 20%. Those at-large delegates (28 total) went 12 for Trump, 11 for Cruz, 5 unbound. But! Louisiana has 6 Congressional Districts, and each gets 3 delegates (18 total). In five of those districts the state GOP is unofficially calling it as Cruz, Rubio, and Trump all getting 1 delegate... except in LA-05, where Cruz gets 2 and Trump gets 1. Thus, the current score is 18-18, with 5 for Rubio and the other 5 officially unaffiliated*.

All of this, by the way, will be the subject of much vigorous debate and discussion in Louisiana political circles over the next week, which probably means that there's going to be a brawl at the upcoming state convention.

Still: if you thought that Donald Trump's awful, no-good night was at least over for him, rest assured: it's not. The universe itself conspires to come back to the tableau* of his humiliation and dump one last small, yet stinking, dollop of embarrassment on his head. As it stands now, the guy didn't even win the delegate count in Louisiana. He could only manage to tie with Ted Cruz, a man who Trump just recently described as "L-I-E-N." Perhaps he meant "lion?" It's so hard to tell, with that particular dude.

Moe Lane

PS: If you were ever wondering what good a professional campaign organization can do for a candidate, it's this: it can take a state where the polls had a candidate down by 15 points on Election Day, and turn it into a state where the candidate tied for first in the delegate count. And perfectly ethically, too! The rules are the rules, and they're perfectly reasonable ones; it's nobody's fault except Trump and his campaign's if they didn't actually read them, and Ted Cruz's people did. Welcome to the big leagues...

*The Republican party doesn't really use super-delegates to the override-the-will-of-the-voters extent that the Democrats do, but the party has a few.

**Well, you know. Louisiana. French. It seemed like a good word to use, under the circumstances.

Apparently it’s a different fantasy workd than the one you inhabit. It must suck to live in a world where an unindicted felon can beat a proven leader and patriot. I’m glad I don’t live there.

Thank you.

With Cruz surging , he could win most western states.

No early voting in MS and closed primary.

Well, that’s not entirely true. If they reside in the US (and many many hundreds of thousands do), the can indeed vote in our election.

I know this because my DIL is a Puerto Rican.

They hate Trump, but apparently, after today’s voting, they hate Cruz even worse.

I don’t know how you get to 2-1 in one district and 1-1-1 in the rest unless Rubio was so weak in CD6 that he couldn’t round his way to a delegate.

Trump and Cruz took 84.7% of the vote in that CD.

Actually today didn’t matter at all. Neither Cruz not Trump got any delegates today.

Who says “never?” the IRS says he can release the tax records anytime he wants.
But his Democrat donations and the fact he is NOT really worth 10 billion dollars are in there—so of course he hides them.
And “off the record” means the NYT’s cannot release the tape where Trump says he lied about his so-called “tough” stance on illegal immigration. Off the record “agreements” do not prevent Trump from releasing the tape.
America needs to know now what smart Americans already know- Trump is a lying liberal phony who Hillary REALLY REALLY wants to run against.

The writer’s and thinker’s at RedState are a big joke. Or, they know exactly what they are doing and playing many for suckers and handing the election platter to Hillary. Just do a google or twitter search or flip your tv news and radio station and all you hear, see or feel is Trump bashing; bashing without real proof or through a filter of soundbite and innuendo. Even with all the bashing Trump managed to get the most actual votes from all the states combined and picked two off in the process, all while taking the flack and being an outsider in the arena of politics. Even though Cruz is a strong candidate in the area of ideas and conservativism, given what Trump has faced compared to Cruz, Cruz is the one that has under performed and in no way can win the general. At the very least, Trump should be applauded, daily for what he has acheived, with the fraction of the resources and money spent.

Louisiana has some weird delegate allocation rules. The “at-large” delegates are allocated on a proportional basis, with a 20% threshold. No candidate can receive more at-large delegates than the percentage they receive, so the 5 unallocated delegates will be “uncommitted” going to the convention.

Based on the best information I can find, the delegates for the Congressional Districts basically function in a way that the top 3 candidates each get 1 delegate, and the 20% threshold does not apply to the CD delegates. So in 5 CDs, Trump, Cruz and Rubio each got one delegate. In one CD, it went 2 delegates for Cruz and one for Trump for some reson, which is why Trump and Cruz tied in the number of delegates.

Of course, I am sure Cruz will have his people at the state convention to try to get some of his supporters elected as the “uncommitted” delegates...

I can accept losing in November if Cruz is the nominee. Not Trump.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
so if cruz is not who are you going to vote for? just what I have been saying all these cruz people are decorates voters...
Hillary is going to be hard to beat and Trump can beat her. cruz can not, what has cruz ever done. cruz is not productive...
Nobody is Reagan, but as Rush Limbaugh says, Cruz is the closest thing we have to Reagan right now.
And I will agree with Rush before I will agree with someone who “claims” they knew Reagan.
That’s all fine and dandy, except outside of the three RNC delegates, I do not think they are technically allowed to leave any other delegate “uncommitted” going post-primary.
It will be interesting to see what shakes out. LA always dances to the beat of a different drum.
You Remember that. I predicted wins for Trump in Kentucky and Louisiana. And yes Trump did win Louisiana here.
