Sailors face more lenient body fat rules

The Navy is giving another chance to thousands of sailors who otherwise would be kicked out for repeatedly failing their physical fitness tests because they exceeded body fat limits.

The service branch loosened its body fat restrictions in January and is allowing those who failed their exams three or more times to get one more opportunity to be tested this spring under the more lenient guidelines. The Navy said it has been losing too many talented sailors. Some were resorting to liposuction, diet pills and other measures to save their careers.

The Navy allowed about 2,400 sailors who passed a preliminary test under the new rules to stay in, reducing the number of failures on their records from three to one, said Navy spokesman, Lt. Cmdr. Nate Christensen. In the past, three failures were grounds for being kicked out. The sailors will be measured again this spring and allowed only two failures now instead of three. ...

I didn’t know a single SF soldier who was not taped. Muscle is much heavier than fat.

I remember back in about 1967 we came along side a navy destroyer for rations, 10 days for 10 men. We were given steaks, real milk and real ice cream. Much better than what we were issued.

EZ for you to say. I don’t know what’s wrong with me really.
I’m 5’ 6”; a woman, with a fairly demanding husband. I have
to take responsibility for lots of stuff around the place.
Husband’s oblivious to the fact that the animals have to be
fed & their water kept clean. - I just fairly poop out all of a sudden & if I don’t go to bed, I just collapse. My
blood sugar tends to the low side, so I’m suddenly in a
state where I just STOP without intending to stop. I’d like
to be able to live in my own little world, but I’m just not
made like that. If I don’t take care of the critters, they
are just SOL. If it’s something fun, he will do it; but
going out in the cold & bottoning down the dog ain’t fun.
This has been going on for 51 years of marriage; so it’s
set in stone. - And if I don’t put out the dog’s food, the
little birdies that come & eat out of her bowl are also
SOL & go hungry in this cold weather. - I’m not like the
big, fat, black on the dole mamas. - I just ate cabbage,
white beans & ham & cornbread for supper & a little milk
& windmill cookies. Before bedtime, I’ll be famished again
and lie awake all night with my stomach growling if I don’t
have a bite to eat. I’d say I have a tapeworm; but I’ve
been having a bit of diatomaceous earth in my oatmeal, so
that would kill a tapeworm. - I’m just old & disgruntled.
You young whippersnappers just don’t understand; but you
will when you also get OLD! - Grumpy Twinkie

"The new limits fall in line with the Department of Defense standards and allow sailors to pass with a maximum 26 percent of body fat for men and 36 percent for women."

If women are deemed fit for Combat and for elite Special Ops outfits, why is there a looser standard for them?

"If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape
and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy."

At 180, you’re too skinny at 6’5”. My husband is 6’4” (when
he stands up straight) & weighs around 240 most of the time.
That looks more human to me. (He has also weighed 270 in the
past which was too much.) - I always stayed around 119 when
I was young; but can’t do it now. - Struggling with low
blood sugar & low potassium levels. (Dr. prescribed
potassium chloride at 1000 mgs. a day; but pot. chloride
can elevate your cholesterol, so I take POTASSIUM ASCORBATE
& eat bananas & oranges until I’m turning into a monkey &
blood is testing OK for potassium.) I’m just old and stuff
is falling apart. Patch, patch, patch, patch . . :o(
