More horses heads? The beginning of a new Godfather trilogy scheduled for 2016
Paramount Pictures, one of the biggest players in Hollywood made a huge announcement this morning that will no doubt drive film fans into a frenzy 44 years after its release, the legendary mafia crime-drama The Godfather is getting a remake and whats more, the flick is starring none other than Johnny Depp himself.
In the press release, Paramount Pictures revealed that they had been planning a remake since 2002, but that they had not been able to find anyone who they thought could live up to Marlon Brandos august performance in the original. This is what Francis Ford Coppola, the director of the 1972 film as well as the upcoming remake, had to say: You know when you got a film as successful and as influential as The God Father, theres this unspoken rule in Hollywood that youve got to make a remake and relaunch the story for a new generation. I am not ashamed of this, its what we do in Hollywood and its a great opportunity to create a new exciting version. This project has been on the drawing board for almost 15 years and I was just about to give up on it until 2010 when I saw The Tourist in the cinemas and saw Depps energy and fire, I knew I wanted him to be Vito Corleone. Five years later, we are well into production and are expecting a 2016 release. Working with Depp is a blessing and he is really nailing his role!

I’m in the “the book’s right there” camp. That’s the apocryphal statement allegedly uttered by Roger Zelazny after the terrible movie “based” on his book Damnation Alley was released. Somebody asked him what he thought of how they ruined his book, and he said they didn’t ruin the book, the book’s right there, it’s fine, too bad they blew all that money making a bad movie. So I’m pro-remakes, even ones that suck. Because sometimes they don’t. And even if they do, the original is right there (in bluray collection in this instance), and sometimes remakes help the old movie find an audience. I dare anybody to have found a copy of Ocean’s 11 before the remake came out, that (excellent) movie had disappeared from the world, but it was easy to find for a few years because of the (mediocre) remake and its (worse) sequels.
Someday they’re going to remake the Godfather. It’s too well known a property to let rot on the art circuit forever. And yeah, there’s a good chance the remake sucks, but the original will remain intact. And maybe, just maybe, the remake won’t suck.
Its not gay. It is a symbolic meaning. Are people that dense that they cant discern what used to customary and NOT homoerotic. What a F-d up world where everything has to be diluted into “its homo” when its been used symbolically for centuries long before the uneducated ahole was even born. Putin kisses a childs belly every year in a church service. it has symbolic meaning for centuries and always some f*cktard has to put a homo spin on it.
Oh yea you are right
:)
Really? Well that sure changes the plot, doesn't it.
HELL NOOO!
That was “the Kiss of Death”. Try getting off your ass and intelligently looking it up. It was done centuries before your tv couch potato educated dumbass came along.
I guess it could have been Chris Rock.
>>>So now we get a twink Corleone. Yes, we are truly fottuto.<<<
So then the garden scene with his granddaughter should be the highlight of the movie.
>>>Next up, J.J.Abrams to extensively use lens flare in a remake of Dirty Harry....<<<
I’m not certain how they could improve on Skorpio’s beatdown by the goon.
Now with I-Pass how they gonna do the tollbooth scene?
I have no idea what MST3K means...
Wow. I always wondered what "the kiss of death" meant. Well I feel a lot better knowing that those Corleone boys weren't homos. Thanks for the education.
The Mafia was a family. It is literally “A FAMILY”. The Godfather is literally everyones GODFATHER.The relationships were very close. It was so tight, that betrayal is treated like you hurt a member of the family. When a superior kisses a person in the family(only one his own), it meant to represent The betrayal of Judas against Christ. Thats where it originated from .It was done in many cultures . Upon seeing the very public kiss, everyone knew that person was next to die without talking about it. They were marked.
And all this time I thought they were homos. Go figure.
Oh ...and the person who was kissed knows they have a short period to kill themselves. The kiss means “I loved you, you screwed me, so either kill yourself or well do it for you.” Its a small act of mercy for the victim because at one time they were close.
; )
Too bad they didn’t do this a couple years ago. They could have brought back Abe Vagoda. For old time’s sake.
the only semi serious role I liked him in was 9th gate, but even then, depp is depp, whatever role he plays.
