Cruz Triumphant
The National Review ^ | March 4, 2016 | David French

Posted on 03/04/2016 11:31:55 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Tonight was the night when I could clearly see Ted Cruz as President of the United States. He made the right moral judgment — dealing with Donald Trump was far more important than jockeying for position with Marco Rubio or John Kasich. He made the case against Trump in the right way — he was civil even as he eviscerated Trump again and again. And he connected with the audience not just with his command of the facts, but also by making his case in an effective, human way. When he asked the audience how many had been waiters or waitresses, I had to smile. Both my wife and I spent more than our fair share of time bringing ice tea to thirsty customers, and the notion that waiting tables — even for a season – is a job Americans won’t do is absurd.

But I can’t praise Cruz without also praising Marco Rubio. Their nonaggression pact was clear. It is an extraordinarily difficult thing for political rivals to choose not to attack each other, but both Rubio and Cruz made the right decision. They both kept their eye on the ball, and in so doing kept hope alive in the quest to save the conservative movement and stop Trump.

Regarding Kasich, his performance was cheap and cowardly. Anyone can look statesmanlike when they opt out of a necessary fight. By choosing to cast himself as above the fray, he created a false moral equivalence between Trump, Rubio, and Cruz, and he transparently curried favor with viewers weary of conflict. With every passing moment, he is staining his legacy and his reputation. At a crucial moment, Kasich chose to be — first and foremost – for Kasich. Shame on him.

Finally, there is much more to be said about this, but words cannot express the contempt I felt for Trump’s insistence that the military would follow his unlawful orders to murder women and children. There are men who’ve paid the ultimate sacrifice rather than kill the innocent, yet he pretends our warriors would simply salute and follow orders when told to kill women and children for the sole purpose of punishing terrorists. Trump is sadly mistaken. If he won the White House and tried to implement his “policy,” the military would refuse to comply — because it has honor, because it respects the law, and because it knows the lessons of history. No order can justify an atrocity.

Yes he won the debate in the eyes of the ivy league American elitist snobs! great job Ted! Too bad the voters think you suck

Isn’t that a little harsh? We have to “take the lumps out!” After all, according to the Real Clear Politics average, only 80.2% of the Republican electorate think Ted sucks.

It’s just their pointless cheerleading.

They know no one sees them as an unbiased source, nor does anyone take them seriously.

So why not go all in?

I find him extremely distasteful as well as illegal. A vote for Cruz is a vote AGAINST the Constitution.

Cruz destroyed Trump in that debate. Too bad for America a lot of Trump followers have closed minds, and can’t admit that they screwed up royally by supporting him over Cruz.

Cruz “character”:

1. Phony summonses mailed out, scaring people to vote for Cruz.

2. Claiming Carson quit, presinc captains told voters “vote for Cruz”

3. Campaigning in the 800 churches, showing video “vote for me” with his preacher/father stomping for him. Rafael Cruz is a 7 Mountain Dominionist and believes his son is the anointed one.

4. “Brilliant” lawyer, did not know he was Canadian citizen and that he is not Natural Born Citizen, not eligible for office of P or VP.

5. Making phony video advertising with lies about opponents.

6. Phony video about Rubio - Obama.

7. 7 Mountain Dominionist Church = Christian???

Just enough to beat Trump in IA, apologize, rinse and repeat?
Liar is the polite term for this Cuban. His father was pro-communist in Cuba, imprisoned by Batista, but now he is refugee?

Cruz is the man!

I will say this about Kasich, he is exactly the wrong guy to be anywhere near consideration for the office of the presidency. Kasich is too above the fray to fight for anything. He wants the appearance of Mr. Positive, yet all he comes across as is Mr. Squish. IMO, Kasich is the clone of Dole, McCain, and Romney. Sure he differ around the margins on policy from those guys, but there isn’t a shred of doubt in my mind that if Kasich somehow received the nomination that he would campaign exactly like the GOPe candidate before him.

Kasich would never ever really take the fight to Hillary. Kasich would insist on running a nice campagn and hope to bring people on board via a charm offensive. As such Kasich would lose badly to Hillary who would chew him up and spit out his naive backside.

Limbaugh is trying to sell Cruz to the American voter, but the shilling won’t work.

>>>”a vote AGAINST the Constitution

The one who showed his anti-constitution stripes last night was Trump.

It goes beyond cheerleading. They will not support Trump even if he gets the nomination. They would rather vote for Hillary.

Yet, they supported Romney and McCain, so-called conservatives. They would also support Rubio and Kasich if nominated. NR has lost all credibility. They are the self-appointed guardians of conservatism.

Funny I saw Mr Haney. :-)

I loved Gene Autry and Pat Buttram when I was a kid. Cruz is the bizzaro Pat.
