An Oklahoma mother is furious after she says a deputy shot her family dog while she was away and left him on the porch with a note.
“The deputy came on to my property when nobody was home,” Angie Laymon told KJRH. “When my German Shepherd did his job and approached the officer barking, the officer shot him.”
Laymon says she and her children were at church when the shooting occurred.
Three hours later, they arrived home to find their dog, Bruno, bleeding on the porch from a gunshot wound.
In addition to finding their dog, Laymon also found a note.
“There’s a note on the door that says the cops shot him,” she said.
At that point, she frantically called the sheriff’s office.
“He got out of his car and as he came around the side of your Escalade, your dog attacked him.’ I said, ‘Did he bite him?’ He said, ‘Well, he felt threatened,” she told KJRH.
Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton said the deputy was investigating a crime nearby when he felt threatened by the dog.
“There’s a lot of things that could be asked. Why didn’t he taze him? Why didn’t he pepper spray him? You know, an officer’s weapon was the first thing that he drew and we don’t have time to go through this use of force ladder,” Walton told KJRH.
Bruno is being treated at an animal hospital after the bullet shattered his shoulder. Veterinarians say he will likely need to have his leg amputated.
I question that, even.
If you’re trespassing, the dog is not “attacking”, he’s defending.

If you are trespassing and the dog attacks, you are the one that is in the wrong. At least that is how I look at it.
I have had a number of occasions though where I have run into unto unattended or unleashed dogs on the street.
One of those times the dog decided it was going to attack my dog for no reason whatsoever.
My dog, being a gentle soul, did not fight, and basically pooped all over the other dog trying to avoid it.
Me, being not a gentle soul, beat the dog up with my feet.
The dog’s owner, a woman who had been playing ball with the dog on their front lawn before it ran over and attacked, was not pleased with my response.
The police came, I told them I had no choice but to respond as I did, because the dog was trying persistently to injure my dog.
No charges were filed against me.
If a grizzly bear comes out the bushes at my dog, me and that grizzly bear are going to roll.
But I know Isis isn’t going to help me at all :D
Well if I posted what I thought of the cop I'd be banned. I will say he needs to be removed from a position that allows him the use of a gun and interaction with animals, he obviously is not equipped for the position he holds.
How in the hell are you supposed to knock on somebody's door without going on their property?

IIRC, cops are being told to shoot the dog if it ‘interferes’ with their work.
Basically that means they can shoot a dog for any reason at all.
We have 4 dogs and 2 of them get car sick and hate to ride in the car. I don’t see how a p/u would be better.
If you do get a truck, be careful I saw a dog jump out of a moving p/u and it was bad.
I was thinking of tying them in the back. I am just trying to figure out a way for them to want to ride. What do you do with the 2 that get sick? One of them has actually growled at me when I tried to get him in. He’s a good nature dog, he just hates cars. I now give him treats just to get in the back of the explorer and not drive anywhere, just to get him use to getting in.

I have bears here too but I don’t think they would attack my dogs. I hope not anyway. I more afraid of mountain lions. One just took down a friend’s goat and injured her horse a few days ago.
I am merely suggesting that if you go on private property uninvited you have to be aware that many people own pets and some of the responsibility lies with you.
I didn’t start taking my scared dogs for rides when they were puppies. Now one is 9 and the other is is 11, it’s a little late to change them now. The only car trips they get are to the vet and they usually throw up. I have lots of towels in the car. The 7 year old doesn’t like to ride in the car but he doesn’t throw up. The 4 dog is so laid back nothing bothers him.
Poor lady, that is awful. She’s blessed with some brave dogs. I had a bear come here in my front yard once. He was eyeing my garden behind some bushes. I was up on my balcony looking down on him. (This was before I had dogs). I asked him,”what do you think you are doing?” and he looked at me like, Oh sheet, I got caught. It was actually funny, like yogi bear or something. He ran away and has not been back. But, I carry when I am out walking. As far as my dogs go, I do worry, so I am thinking about getting another GSD.
That woman used to post at another website that I was following at the time. She was missing from the site for awhile and when she returned she said that she had been attacked by a bear, and wrote a more complete description of what happened.
She was working on her property with her dogs snoozing nearby when she sensed something and looked up to see the young black bear staring at her from some brush. And then it charged. Bit her in the face which is what bears usually do, severing half the skin of her face.
Her dogs attacked the bear and gave her the time to escape and drive herself to the ranger station.
What was significant to me was that the attack came quickly and with little warning. If her two dogs hadn’t been close by that bear would have killed her for certain. Lucky for her they were big dogs as well.
The fact that it happened so fast is worrisome. Same as what would happen with a mountain lion. I differ with her
concerning that bear. I think that it needs to be put
down.
I did not see it in the article, did she say what time of day it was when she was attacked?
I believe it was early afternoon. She lived on a big property up near Bakersfield and she was doing some weeding or brush clearance. She was aware that there were bears in the vicinity but hadn’t thought of them as a threat.
Deputies are a dangerous form of LEO.
One did the exact same thing to a friend of mine in Colorado years ago.
They lived on the edge of town and one day my friend, his wife, their toddler son and their skinny, old German Shepherd girl were tending a burn barrel in their back yard.
A deputy saw the smoke and stopped to see what was burning.
Unfortunately, no one knew he had stopped or knew he was there. When he came walking around their house to check it out he totally surprised everyone.
When their old girl trotted over to check him out, he pulled out his weapon and shot her dead right in front of them.
Nothing happened to him for it. Didn't get fired. IIRC, I think he was relocated.
Their poor girl, just like that poor wounded puppy in the picture, were both in their own yards just minding their own business when a trespasser showed up and shot them.
Too much. I have to go hug my dogs now and then I'll give God my hate so maybe He can heal it or make use of it somehow.
