Obama says first family staying in Washington ‘for a couple of years’ after he leaves the WH

Over lunch with a small group in Milwaukee, President Obama on Thursday said he plans to stay in Washington for a couple of years after his presidency so that his youngest daughter can finish high school.

It has long been speculated that the first family might stay in Washington after Obama leaves the White House. The president, though, made it sound as if it were a done deal.

Obama was having lunch with four women and a man — all of whom had written him letters about the Affordable Care Act — at Engine Company No. 3, a restaurant in Milwaukee. They talked about the weather and the Midwest.

“It always feels good being closer to home,” Obama said.

One of the women asked about Hawaii, where he was born. “Hawaii is home for me,” he replied, but suggested that his real home is Chicago. “I spent almost 30 years in Chicago,” he said, noting it was also Michelle Obama’s hometown.

Someone at the table then asked where he and the first lady would live after he was done with the presidency.

“We haven’t figured that out yet,” he said. “We’re going to have to stay a couple of years so Sasha can finish” school, he said. “Transferring someone in the middle of high school — tough.”

When Obama visited Kenya last year, he just about hid from every public function and honorarium that would bring him close to the actual citizens. Obama refused to visit many distant relatives who had prepared for years to greet him as President.

I hadn't followed this but I was curious why he would do that. Obama did meet with dozens of relatives on his first night in Nairobi. He did not travel to his father's ancestral village, supposedly for security and timing reasons. This did disappoint a lot of people but considering that the village is 250 miles from Nairobi and Kenya has had quite a few terrorist attacks in recent years from Al-Shabaab, it is logical that a U.S. president would not make this side trip.

Of nothing else, no matter what, he will be depressed (or ticked off) when his term is up. It will be a MASSIVE change. I don’t think he realizes how bad it will be.

Of course. He has to supervise his turdminions and secure his billion dollar pay outs for the Obama foundation. He will be supervising his revolution until the day he dies.

"Is there a federal prison in D.C.?"

He might be able to stay a while in the WH dungeon before they wall it in, or maybe even after.

Excerpted:

Mr. Obama said ... “we’re going to have to stay” in Washington until his younger daughter, Sasha, finishes school.

“Transferring someone in the middle of high school — tough,” the president said in response to a question.

Sasha is on track to graduate from the exclusive Sidwell Friends School in the spring of 2018. Mr. Obama said he was unsure where the family would move after that.

Last year, Marty Nesbitt, a longtime friend of the Obamas from Chicago, was linked to the purchase of an $8.7 million house in Hawaii that was featured in “Magnum, P.I.” Some reports took it as a sign that the Obamas were planning a return to the state of Mr. Obama’s birth.

“We’re going to have to stay a couple of years so Sasha can finish” school, he said. “Transferring someone in the middle of high school — tough.”

Career military officers and NCO’s are transferred frequently resulting in the need for their children to change schools. Managers in the private sector relocate when taking on new jobs and new assignments. Many ministers change churches from time to time. The children go with the family and adapt. In fact, the disruption may be “tough” on the child but it teaches resilience and adaptation. Children who move learn to develop new friendships and social networks quickly, a useful skill in later life.

A family move is a transition, something one experiences many times in life. What really is the difference between changing schools between the 10 and 11th grades in high school and changing schools upon graduation from high school? If anything a move during high school will better prepare the child for the transition between high school and college.

Obama’s decision to stay in Washington is about his needs not his daughter’s. Shielding children from “tough” situations does them a disservice in terms of their development. Of course Obama is a member of the 1% and can afford to stay put for two years instead of relocate. Unfortunately, the middle manager in the private sector who loses his/her job due to the lousy economy, doesn’t have that choice. The middle manager’s children change schools when the parent finds a job in a distant city. It is called reality.

On hand for his possible nomination to the Supreme Court.

First, he's waiting around to get his 10 years at the WH as he once said he was going to have. If one of the non-NBCs gets the nomination, Hellary will have the election tied up for those extra two years. Eventually, SCOTUS will crown her. He'll go over to the UN to play footsy with our enemies until the end of her term when she'll pay him back with a lifetime appointment to SCOTUS.

It was BJ who had to be pried out of the WH. He did everything to over shadow W’s swearing in. Of course, it takes time load up the stolen furnishings.

Moo hates the WH so much, she’ll be dragging his scrawny backside out at the crack of dawn.

Speaking as a Marine Corps brat, yeah, you have no idea how rough.

It only took him eight years to say something I agree with.
