Sammy Sosa comes in at 165 lb, then suddenly he's 225?? His personal trainer has a special diet!!! And many more.
Both are cheaters. I recall that for some fans Armstrong’s fall from grace came as a shock and at least for a while they did not want to believe it. Sosa has had problems all along including with his so-called charity.
That and, you know, you did it.
Lance Armstrong should be given an award for being a Master Liar and Cheat. He was only a “great’ bicyclist because of Dr. Ferrari; before he started doping, he was a mediocre hill climber and road racer (for a Tour participant) who would have been lucky to have remained a “domestique” in the Tour. His money was stolen, he is nothing but a low grade thief and liar who has no criticism of any validity against Tygart and USADA.
To say that I was disappointed is an understatement.
Eddy Merckx is my guy, and yes I know his history.
Also note that Armstrong never rode ParisRoubaix.
You could get hurt on the cobblestones!
He was dirty.
He said he wasn’t dirty, but insiders and athletes KNEW he was dirty.
He denied it.
He went on a “hero” tour denying it.
He used his “Live Strong” foundation and credibility to attack his accusers.
He should just go away.
I never liked the guy. Mostly because he made biking more popular, which made the bike trails more full, generally with irritating people who couldn’t be bothered to learn the etiquette. But also he always seemed like a jerk.
Here’s a solution. Gladiator match between Lance Armstrong and the Blade Runner murderer guy.
Blade Runner can use his blades, and Lance Armstrong can use his bike.
And he pretty much defined a sport for a least the casual fans. It was a sport of one for most Americans.
He does make a good point vs the cost of the anti-doping bodies vs the number of dopers they find by testing. Not sure of any solution for it, besides throwing your hands up and walking away from caring about it.
Freegards
He wasn't using one of these, Vrooom! Cycling's New Scandal Is a Motor, I take it?
I fell for the whole act. He was a hero to me. I thought the accusers were just jealous losers. Painful to admit, but this is a safe room.
Armstrong used to have an active PR crew here on FR. Let’s see if they crawl out of the woodwork on this thread.
I’m going to crawl out of the woodwork. I will not defend him ever but I feel he is going to find away to resurrect his present again. Some Phoenix like act or event will help rehabilitate him. Not total of course. Lance is a great fighter if nothing else.
A high school friend of my son’s tried to make it in cycling, get on pro teams, etc., and was having some success. This about 8-10 years ago.
He gave up because it was impossible to compete at the top levels without juicing. He went to culinary school.

You have nailed it. All at the top for the last ten to 15 years are dopers, and frankly as long as doping was regulated I say let them do it. It isn’t like they are using mind altering drugs or steroids. Not sure how you put a stop to it and of course it separates the blood dopers from the average racer yielding an unfair advantage, where, if all were allowed blood doping, you would know who had the best doctor, or the best plan. I just don’t see how it is possible to depend on personal honesty and character to keep them living by the rules.
Merckx was one of a kind, he rode everything and won everything. So many great riders. I actually rode a training ride with Hinault in Rock Creek Park when he was in DC staying at the French Embassy. Also liked Sean Kelly.
I think Stephen Roche might have had help in that magnificent 1987 season, but nobody cared because he was such a nice, decent guy.
Lance? Well, plenty of folks had cause to bring the knives out for him. He was a jerk, and greedy.
