Journey from the Fall
Nice...thank you!
Vet ping.
When I was looking up the correct spelling for fat in Vietnamese, I came across this and it mentions the primary diet of fish and rice:
Why Vietnamese Women Don’t Get Fat
http://thehappypassport.com/vietnamese-women-dont-get-fat/
In USMC Boot Camp (1966) the Drill Instructors would line us up in formation on the Platoon Street (the path between our Quonset Huts where we bunked) and announce "Smoking Formation! Non-smokers get your toothbrushes, run to the head and brush your fangs!"
They'd hold one non-puffer back and designate him as "Ashtray"....meaning he'd hold the lid of a metal trashcan and run up and down the line of us smokers, so that we could politely tip our ashes....
(I'm guessing that around 3/4 of us were smokers)
Everything from my active duty, other than one Pisscutter, my Corporal Chevrons and dogtags was lost forever after I got out, found an apartment and promptly had the open-garage storage bay burglarized -- the lot of which included a footlocker with all that stuff.
I don't know what the hell I'd have done if they'd activated us inactive reservists.

that’s cheating! The only map they gave me had hill and hamlet numbered in a grid pattern.
I was very Blessed, had been married for 4 years when went over, she kept everything. Still has all the letters I wrote her, grandkids love to rummage through all the stuff. Lots of questions when they do, so Grandma tells them not today, its not a good day for that.
Thank you Sgt. Dave for link. :)
I got a bunch of those maps from the gummint before I went back there with my daughter in 2000. They came in mighty handy for locating a bunch of old haunts.
(Though wish I still had that Zippo.)

At least that's what the sign sign said when you entered the camp back then!
We based at Phu Bai when they let us animals come in for a shower from the field... Which wasn't that often!
Phu Bai was a short hop by Huey to Hue to the North, and the Ashua Valley to the West South West. Fun times were had by All!!!
See my "about" page...
If I ever look like I give a F@$K
