In all seriousness, those who have had to endure what I've had these last few days can understand.
I had retinal reattachment surgery on Monday. I noticed the symptoms of a detached retina last Thursday. I went to a very fine retinal specialist on Monday morning; they operated that afternoon.
The "buckle" holds the retina in place as it heals, I'm not too sure what the bubble is about, but I'm off work for 2 weeks while recovering.
Here is some info to look up about a detached retina, if interested.
The worst part? I must stay face down for one week. That includes sleeping. On my stomach.
Prayers for your recovery, R2nd. Sleeping on your tummy? Goodness... can they prescribe a sleeping pill for the 2 weeks or maybe you can try some Benadryl?
Prayers for your recovery!
Retina reattachment surgery is tough. Good luck, get well soon.
Hope you get better, soon!
Sounds totally miserable. I can share your misery. Years ago I ended up with a deep corneal laceration.
Happened in the 70’s. The prognosis was not good to save the whole eyeball.
God must have been with me because with a lot of help from family and friends, my eyeball was saved. I do not have much sight in it, but it is there.
The recovery was awful and I had the same problems that you are having. Couldn’t wash my hair. Had to be taken to a beauty shop to wash it. All kinds of goo, drops, and bandaging. I could feel the stitches in my eye.
What made it worse is that I was 7 months pregnant.
See, you brought out some memories. I will be thinking about you and please keep us informed on your recovery.
Prayers sent.
I’ve had $hitty vision my whole life and various blacked out glasses as a kid. Struggling with 3 pairs of different bi/tri-focals just to read the computer/ drive or just adjust the thermostat in the house.....
Good catch! I would be FREAKING OUT !
Chill out and relax.
I had a detached retina, full detachment , in 2012. Then had the gas bubble put in. And one full week of face down recovery for 23 hours a day. 7 days. That face down recovery was very hard and uncomfortable in the extreme. My understanding is the gas bubble is better than the Scleral buckle. It diisipates after a month. I needed cataract surgery 4 months after, because the surgery damages the lens.
But my sight was saved in my right eye and I’m intensely grateful to my retinal surgeon for that.
Still see a multitude of floaters. And have gone through 3 different eyeglass prescriptions since the surgery.
But again the surgery was not that big a deal. But face down recovery was a trial. I watched 3 seasons of downtown abbey, all of HBO Deadwood, all of HBO Rome, re-watched band of brothers, and countless movies.
I’d be like a plank on a beach ball if I had to sleep on my stomach.
Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery, FRiend.
My Mom had this done, it worked out just fine. The sleeping face down on the horseshoe pillow was the worst thing, she said.
I can relate. Went through it in 2008. Didn’t have to do the face down business, maybe because the location of the detachment was lower right of the eye.
Worst part for me was, I was extremely near-sighted. The buckle re-shaped my eye so that my vision was completely changed in that eye. No contacts or glasses could get both eyes in sync! I had to wear a patch over my right eye for six months (actually taped over my glasses) while the eye healed and became stable enough for LASIK surgery.
After surgery I was no longer near sighted! But have to use reading glasses for reading, working on the computer. No problems since then - hope things go well for you!
I can't sleep on my stomach only on other peoples stomachs.
In response to your Post #3, I truly apologize for my post. I thought this was an Opus post. I apologize, again.
I am sorry you have such an issue. However, to have that addressed so well is a blessing.
I have the creepy crawlies since I read this yesterday. Amazed at all we do and endure to keep what precious sight we have and then wake to this story of an MS-13 gang member, in the country illegally for 10 years or more. As a show of gang affiliation he has his EYE BALLS tattooed and in the process goes blind.
Ends up crawling to the nearest police station, crying and confessing everything he has ever done and pleading with them to help him.

How is that face down thing going??
