NBC Perpetuates The Myth That Planned Parenthood Performs Mammograms

On today’s Meet the Press, Chuck Todd helped perpetuate the myth that Planned Parenthood provides mammograms. Interviewing Donald Trump, Todd said “Democrats will say the money they give to Planned Parenthood does not go to abortions. That the money they give to Planned Parenthood only goes to other women’s health issues including mammograms and things like that.”

Let’s make this absolutely clear: Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms. Its own FAQ on the matter makes that clear. Even the Washington Post says “the myth that Planned Parenthood actually offers mammogram X-rays to patients has been long debunked, and needs to stop being repeated . . . When Democratic lawmakers or other supporters assert that Planned Parenthood ‘provides’ mammograms, this is highly misleading.”

If Todd was going to echo the Dem’s “highly-misleading” line, he had a duty to inform viewers that it was untrue. He didn’t, and thus misled MTP’s audience. A shame.

SIGN THE PETITION! Congress Must De-Fund Planned Parenthood Immediately

CHUCK TODD: Now let’s move to Planned Parenthood. You defended the other work Planned Parenthood does.

DONALD TRUMP: That’s right. I do.

TODD: Now you said you’d defund it.

TRUMP: That’s right, I would.

TODD: Democrats will say the money they give to Planned Parenthood does not go to abortions. That the money they give to Planned Parenthood only goes to other women’s health issues including mammograms and things like that.

It is my understanding that routine mammograms are of no use anyway.

Donald wouldn’t say good things about PP if they were bad?

Ted Cruz has ads about PP needing to be de-funded.

But Trump says Cruz is sick and lies more than any other human being.

Trump says PP is good. Ted Cruz says it is bad.

What are we poor souls to think?

Anything beyond abortions and they are a referral service only.

Just another critical issue upon which Trump is perfectly ignorant and too lazy to learn the facts.

My wife had one yesterday at a local hospital. The local hospital gives them for however much your insurance will pay. No insurance? No charge. No co pays.

This is from the N. Y. Times, writing about mammograms, not a conservative paper by any means:

“It found that the death rates from breast cancer and from all causes were the same in women who got mammograms and those who did not. And the screening had harms: One in five cancers found with mammography and treated was not a threat to the woman’s health and did not need treatment such as chemotherapy, surgery or radiation.”

A cynic would say that a hospital that gives free mammograms is looking for a patient to treat whether they need treatment or not.

Personally, I don’t know enough about the subject, but I hope your wife is fine.
