There must be something about Trump
Vanity

Posted on 02/21/2016 3:21:29 PM PST by NavVet

I'm trying to understand FR's embrace of the Donald, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this one. I too had a favorable first reaction when I heard him talking about building the wall in absolute terms, and his rejection of the concept of amnesty for illegal aliens. I also admired that he was the first politician in a long time that would fight back against the media and left-wing attacks, instead of trying to appease the left. However, that admiration quickly wore off when I researched Trump and found clip after clip of the man, in his own words embracing every liberal talking point in the book. Planned Parenthood, gay marriage, abortion, government health care, protectionist trade policies, increasing taxes on businesses and the most productive. Of course, the man has taken the opposite positions on most of these two. Sometimes he will take both sides of an issue in the same discussion. Also, his "I'm awesome at___________" is wearing a bit thin. I want to hear what you plan to do, not how great you are. Then there is his child like temper, calling anyone he doesn't agree with , Liar, Pu@@Y or worse. Just seems kind of juvenile. The personality quirks I could live with, but a man who praises Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton is another thing. And perhaps most important of all, he has said that his uber liberal sister would be a great Supreme Court Justice. Other than being a recent convert on Immigration this man has no conservative bona fides and yet have of FR acts like you would expect this board to react if Ronald Regan had returned. I just don't get it. If Bernie Sanders starts lobbying for the fair tax and runs for President on the GOP ticket would the Trumpets start feeling the Bern.

BOL! Can you imagine some of these Cruz pukes in a two minute session with Admiral Rickover!

"Cruz pukes"? Absolutely no class. No wonder Trump supporters get no respect.

If Cruz wasn’t in the race, who would you be supporting?

See that is reasoned and persuasive thought that I am open to listening too. I just don’t understand how someone who seems to have such high expectations as well as analytical capabilities as you, doesn’t see Trump for the conservative imposter he is. I don’t mean that as an insult to you so please don’t take it that way.

Cruz’s VAT cripples manufacturing. As a business owner who adds value to things, a VAT is the worst. It’s great for financial institutions, hedge funders, etc, but to those who actually DO something it’s another story.

Why not during live debates? If he has the nomination sewn up, as I believe you and his supporters truly believe, why hasn’t he gone after them. You rightfully pointed out he was well ahead in SC before yesterday. Why was it necessary to cal G W Bush a liar and leave Hillary and Bernie unscathed?

It's the shock jock candidacy. Trumps talks angry and unedited, people like that. It's made Howard Stern rich.

Yes, I agree with you. Chivalry went down the drain [along with the babies] in 1973 with Roe v. Wade. Men can be completely disrespectful now, and both women and men cheer them on.

Trump doesn’t claim to be a conservative.

Cruz wasn’t a Tea party guy back when he was going to run for AG in Texas. Then Perry decided to stay on as Gov and he ran for Senate. Before that, he was the establishment prospect for AG, having worked for Bush at the FTC.

Trump isn’t the fake here. He has been in the public eye since Ted was living in Alberta as a child.

You know it’s funny....but I’ve been all over Ted Cruz’s webpage and the only “vat” I can find is in the word conservative.

Could you please point me to where he advocates for that VAT tax? Thanks.

DC “conservatives” haven’t achieved much of anything since about 1986. If Trump can achieve, something (anything!) on illegal immigration and trade, it will be the first time in 30 years !

As for the rest, given the surrenders we have seen in DC the last few years, who cares what their “campaign” positions are. I’d rather have Trump being up front abut not being a down the line conservative, than “lie now, and surrender later”.

You would think they could tell that with a few focus groups before spending 120 million. That’s what you’d think. I wonder where the money went? For absolutely no payoff at all. I think there’s something fishy about that. I read an article about campaign manager Murphy that said he is notorious for spending every dollar a campaign takes in.

Many very ardent Cruz supporters are like the next gen RON PAUL supporters. They have two ways of “convincing” people to join their cause (that clearly aren’t working).

1) They insist on a ridiculous, almost impossible level of orthodoxy, and are always on the hunt for opponents using a string of four words together that they then latch on to in order to “prove” that the enemy is in violation of the Sacred Principles.

2) If you ever dare to point out that their candidate has shown inconsistencies regarding the Sacred Principles (TPA, Iran, giving LPR to illegals), then all you will get back is an insult about your own candidate.

When Cruz inevitably doesn’t win the nomination, many will stamp their feet and either throw away their vote or stay home.

It’s a lost cause to attempt to convert the ones who follow this pattern. They make the pejorative term “TDS” a reality.

Doesn’t mean he won’t either. The same chance taken when voting for any of the other back stabbing Republicans.

Trump is a populist; he wets his finger every morning and sees what topics push the populace’s hot buttons that day. His coup de grace issue from the beginning is illegal immigration; it is his chief hot button issue much the same as Hitler’s rant against the Jews was his. But analyzing what he says, do you really think that deporting 11 million illegals will magically create high paying jobs for Americans? Getting rid of all those fruit pickers and bus boys and janitors and landscapers that earn minimum wage will foster the creation of 100K per year white collar jobs for out of work citizens??? He promise to forcibly bring all the expatriated jobs back to the US and then tells his worshipers that they can then tell the returning companies F*CK YOU...yeah, that will bring them back. Trump is a crude, rude, exaggerating bully and only the same kind of people that fell for Hitler’s schtick fall for Trumps.

If you read what I responded to, you'll see I just held up a mirror.

I see nothing but ugly and vile in that mirror and it is coming from folks like you. There is a reason folks get turned off on politics and you've wonderfully displayed one of several reasons.
