Dogs attacked four children severely injuring three of them Saturday night east of Colorado Springs. Their bite wounds were so severe that they required surgery.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said a woman went to check on animals and property for her employer in Rush, about 40 miles east of Colorado Springs along Highway 94.
The woman had her five children with her in the car. They're all under age 18.
A sheriff's office spokesperson said the woman went into the barn and then she heard screams.
She found that three Great Danes had attacked four of the five children.

We are.
James Herriot recalled the most terrifying experience he ever had with any dog was when he inadvertently got between a Great Dane and her freshly whelped pups.
A good thing :)
Adults are not small enough to elicit prey drive.

"A really interesting book. The basic premise is to stop anthropomorphizing dogs; don't believe the Disney fantasy of dogs who think like us and live to serve us. Just because they are supremely selfish doesn't make them any less enjoyable as companions. But understanding that will make you a better trainer and a happier family. Favorite quotes:
It's all chew toys to them... virtually all natural dog behaviors - chewing, barking, rough play, chasing moving objects, eating any available food item within reach, jumping up and pawing to greet, settling minor disputes with threat displays, establishing contact with strange dogs, guarding resources, leaning into steady pressure against their chests or necks, urinating on porous surfaces like carpets, defending themselves against perceived threat - are all considered by humans to be behavior problems. The rules which seem so obvious to us make absolutely no sense to dogs. They are not humans in dog suits."
Hundreds of dogs die in shelters every year because humans are dog-stupid. My husband and I have 7 "problem" dogs we rescued from high kill shelters in Cali, among the over a thousand we pulled north to safety. Dogs would greatly benefit from the burning of every disney movie ever featuring them.
