He didn’t claim to be a Conservative over the years.
Folks see him as neutral.
So he hawks good policy and the public is is allowed to evaluate it versus the label.
As some of us predicted, Hispanics actually buy into a guy demanding our immigration policies be enforced.
This actually works out to our benefit.
Our policies are getting broadcast to the masses, and the masses are buying in.

Exactly. I might also point out that ideological, check-box doctrinaire conservative has been as much a failure as has its obverse on the liberal side. It makes sense, really - when your view of reality is shaped by an ideology, rather than the other way around, you’re always going to run into cases where your solutions end up being ineffective.
Doctrinaire open borders conservatism (”because it’s good for BID’NESS!”) has failed, and has only ended up hurting the middle class in this country. It’s time to try a little America First for a change.
