Mystery black rain hits Michigan town: Tar-like substance falls from the sky

A city in Michigan is perplexed after a a tar-like substance has rained down on their cars, porches and driveways this week. The black, oily substance first appeared on at least six driveways in Harrison Township on Sunday, and days later, what the material is still remains a mystery. Michigan Department of Environmental Quality officials collected samples of the substance on Wednesday. The city's fire chief sad that it is not bird droppings and is not flammable,

Local Detroit area news stations report that Selfridge Air National Guard Base has commented, saying that aircraft traffic in and out of the base had absolutely nothing to do with it. It is not known exactly how disappointed they were to hear that.

Harrison Twp. is only about 3 - 4 miles south of Selfridge so it could be debris falling from flying aircraft but there's not much flight traffic these days.

My guess is that it's mud that may have fallen from a low flying coast guard helicopter which is always active along that part of the lake due to the ice fishing.........
