I propose that we follow The Covey Rule here at Free Republic.
Stephen Covey had a great idea for settling arguments.
Two people are really on opposite sides of an issue. We'll call them Person A and Person B. Covey wrote that one side could not begin advocating their position until they had explained the other person's position TO THAT PERSON'S SATISFACTION.
So, Person A could not start making his points until he had explained Person B's position TO THE SATISFACTION OF PERSON B. Likewise, Person B could not start making her points until she had explained Person A's position TO THE SATISFACTION OF PERSON A.
This ensures that both sides are at least starting from the same basic points.
So, when we get the fights going on, oh, say, Trump and Cruz or religion or the Civil War, one person could invoke The Covey Rule and ask that the other person explain their view.
Yep, it's a real pain in the donkey to do this, but the name-calling going on here at Free Republic is getting to be a real pain in the donkey anyway.
I believe that Covey used this in a class on the issue of abortion and saw amazing results.
Give it a try.
Otherwise, keep calling people names and see what that gets you.
I used Covey’s “Seek first to understand, and then be understood.” ALL of his stuff wasn’t junk. It was this method of communication that can be tedious.
I was also a big fan of Demming. That guy made Japan the height tech/quality fanatics they are today.
Just be thankful you never had to give a cat a suppository.
Some posted positions are so idiotic that they are not comprehendible let alone sane and could cause undue mental anguish and risk to normal brain activity trying to paraphrase unequivocal lunacy. Thus the creation of the zot for idiocy, larceny, name calling, and other unruly behavior and attitudes. I just wait for Laz to give his synopsis and reaction when unfreeper like views are presented or name calling occurs and the moderator has not shown up yet or in before the Zot or Viking kittins.
OK, if we start from the premise that 80% of what we find on the internet is wrong (by commission or omission or ignorance), post no links, and give real citations. Nah, I guess that’s too much work.
That reminds me of this:
“To understand everything is to forgive everything.”
Oh how we laughed and laughed
Except I wasn’t laughing
Under the circumstances
I’ve been shockingly nice
I haven’t laughed that hard in weeks!
Thank you!
Bookmarked just for your post.
