Mark Levin highlighted what he described as Senator Marco Rubio's previous supporting of widespread amnesty for illegal aliens on Monday. Taking aim at Rubio's latest reframing of events as having attempted to send the Gang of Eight amnesty bill to the House of Representatives for conservative amendments, Levin noted that the Florida senator opposed such proposed conservative amendments from Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Mike Lee, and Senator Jeff Sessions.
Rubio has recently stated that proposed amnesty bill - what he called the "Senate immigration law" when speaking at a campaign rally - was never going to become law, stating that given the Democratic majority in the Senate at the time, it "was the best [Republicans] could do."
Accusing Rubio of "rewriting history", Levin said the Florida senator had âstood shoulder-to-shoulderâ with Senator Chuck Schumer, Senator Dick Durbin, and Senator Lindsey Graham.
"Marco Rubio will not say that the Gang of Eight was wrong, that he shouldn't have done it, that he misled the people of Florida, he misled conservatives and Tea Party activists all across the country But he did. That's what happened. Thatâs why he's so defensive," said Levin.
Speaking with Sessions, Levin cut to the heart of the matter by stating that no discussion of amendments to the amnesty bill would be necessary if not for the existence of the bill.
The Rubio campaign has been accusing Cruz of duplicity over the issue of amnesty given the Texas senator's proposed amendments to the now defunct bill which would have prevented its illegal alien beneficiaries from ever being eligible for citizenship. Rubio has described the proposed amendments as evidence of Cruz's previous support for amnesty, especially in light statements in Senate Judiciary Committee calling for âimmigration reform: to pass. Cruz has stated that his proposed amendments amounted to "poison pills" for the bill, in that he knew the bill's proponents would not accept such limitations and that bill would effectively be killed.
Sessions concurred with Levin in describing Cruz as a consistent opponent of amnesty. Also noted was that the Gang of Eight opposed all such proposed amendments.
"The Gang of Eight had been meeting in secret for months, with President Obama. It was President Obama's bll, in large part, along with Schumer and the Gang of Eight. They had the Chamber of Commerce, and they had La Raza, and they had the ACLU, and they had all these groups, but no law enforcement people were in it. No American citizens who were about to lose their jobs were invited in these secret meetings," said Sessions, ""[Cruz] opposed it."
"Cruz, and you, and Lee, and some of the others opposed the bill and were supporting amendments to try and kill it. Am I right or wrong?" asked Levin.
"Yes, that's exactly right," responded Sessions.
Levin has previously called out Rubio for dishonest criticisms of Cruz.
During the Republican debate this past Saturday, Rubio repeated his obfuscation of Cruz's record on the issue of illegal immigration and amnesty.
Yesterday’s show was epic. Also found out that Pryor’s name was given to Trump by Session’s former aid so Trump could pander for Session’s support.
Levin and Sessions are liars, obviously.
I believe Rush < sarc
Like Glen Beck saying that God took Judge Scalia to help Ted Cruz.
“Levin and Sessions are liars, obviously.”
Yeah, well we knew Levin was a liar ever since he dared to question the conservative credentials of Mr. Trump (blessed be His name). Now Sessions is clearly a liar too. I don’t care if he claims to be an immigration hawk or whatever, ANYONE that would go public and corroborate Cruz’s version of events as pertaining to the Gang of Eight bill is definitely lying, cause we know that “pretty boy” Rubio always tells the truth.
I never heard it
Yep, Sessions is about the only senator I trust. I’m not wild about Cruz these days, (or any of them) but I’ll take Jeff Sessions word.
Mark had some audio tonight of obama when he was trying to keep Alito off the SCOTUS. Classic.
Rubio trump liars not trustworthy.
Rubio even more a liar than trump cause he says one thing in spanish then the opposite in English!
If Rubio is such a stalwart AGAINST amnesty; howcum he recently told a latino TV audience, in Spanish, that “when” he’s POTUS, “all 12 million” undocumenteds will be made legal BEFORE anything is done to secure the border” or anything else?
I’ve lost a lot of faith in Levin; and if Sessions and his pal are going to start covering for him, I’m getting edgy about them, too. Isn’t there even ONE politician whose word you can take to the bank?
“Does Mark give a disclaimer that his finance’s son works for Ted Cruz?
I never heard it”
As a matter of fact — yes. I heard him mention that on his radio show about a month ago.
It’s my understanding that Ted offered an amendment that basically said anyone here illegally would NEVER be able to be a citizen, and they started to back away from it because that was the aim of the bill was to get them citizenship. After Ted got the language in the bill, he said “Sure I want it to pass”. That’s because the amendment gutted the bill. It was a poison pill, but people don’t like to call it that in public. That’s the way I saw it and I pay attention, but may have missed something. As far as I know Cruz has NEVER supported amnesty, even before his election to the Senate. I’m in Texas and he’s my Senator.
Of course he doesn’t that would sound like a conflict of interest.
Pray America wakes
You are correct. Cruz has never supported amnesty.
I started paying attention to Cruz during his Senate run. Cruz was calling for the wall to be built in 2011 when Trump was still griping that Romney was too harsh for suggesting self deportation.
Actually both Sessions and Levin are correctly Rubio in the article as blatantly lying about Cruz’s position.
Rubio ran on an anti amnesty platform in the Florida Senate race. He hadn’t even got his suitcase unpacked in D.C. until he was huddled with Obama and the Dems on the Gang of 8 bill.
I can’t believe the people on these boards are only now starting to discover the gang of eight bill, everyone who was active knows what happened.
We have no need to relearn what happened, Rubio is a sell-out {Period}
We also know that Cruz was absolutely doing everything he could to kill this sucker, he used the rules of the institution to Aikido the bill into oblivion.
If not for him, it would have been signed by Obama ... instead we have his executive actions; these were a direct consequence to Cruz killing this bill
As Levin points out: Rubio will never admit that his association with the Gang of Eight was a mistake. He just makes lame excuses for it, and even lies about his dealings. That is what makes his treachery even more intolerable.

You’re absolutely right. People either have short memories or a strong desire to rewrite history. I remember vividly the fight to stop Gang of Eight, because many of us here were very concerned about Boehner ramming it down our throats in the House with Dem votes. I remember the late night sessions with Cruz, Congressman King and the rest of the House Freedom Caucus meeting in the basement of the D.C. pizza parlor planning strategy to defeat this thing. Those who were there in the thick of this fight know full well that Cruz was their ally.
What I can’t understand is why Rubio wants to keep making this an issue by deliberating misrepresenting where Cruz stood on it. By doing so, he keeps highlighting the fact that he stood with Obama, Schumer, the Chamber of Cowards and the rest of the Ruling Class against the American people. I would have a lot more respect for him if he just admitted he made a mistake and apologized for it. But to attack others over a bill HE HELPED WRITE, a bill that would not have existed were it not for him, is very hard to stomach.
Everybody on FR at the time was well aware of it and cheering him on for this.
It is really astonishing to watch history of this being completely rewritten to make Senator Cruz the bad guy. I just have to shake my head. FR sounds like DU these days. Sad.
Rubio is truth in emotion, let me explain
he had this bill that was a deal in his mind to head off more radical actions by Obama, Cruz killed it which blew up his deal causing Obama going alone
So ... Rubio is telling the truth in his mind ... Cruz torpedoed his deal with Obama and the left making it worse
Cruz and the others on this board know, this is like negotiating with Iran....hey, that explains that too!!
