Graham's Hierarchy of Disagreement
Wikipedia ^ | Last Updated 11FEB2016 | Paul Graham

Graham proposed a "disagreement hierarchy" in a 2008 essay "How to Disagree",[22] putting types of argument into a seven-point hierarchy and observing that "If moving up the disagreement hierarchy makes people less mean, that will make most of them happier."

Although originally written as a simple list, Graham's hierarchy can be represented as a pyramid with the most convincing form of disagreement at the top, and the weakest at the bottom:

I use the ‘I reject your premise’ frequently - hard to fight back against it; it puts the other party on the defensive.

Trump goes straight to name calling. He is incapable of the approaches near the top of the pyramid.

I believe the preferred argument on Free Republic now is to call Cruz a slimy, sleazy, nasty, cheating, Goldman Sachs bought, lying Canadian and call it a day. It sidesteps all that exhausting “thinking” that normally keeps people informed.

In our current climate I don’t believe any premise, or fact for that matter, is not open to dispute. Truth is now subjective and opinions are absolutes.

You Idiot! No one here on FR wants a reasonable discussion with anyone who disagrees with them. [sarcasm/]

I don't think that's true. He's published numerous detailed position papers that he's demonstrated an ability to defend. But he's often attached in such a puerile fashion he just responds on the level at which he was attacked. After all, why throw pearls to swine? His critics never admit the mud they're slinging, and pretend he's responding in a vacuum - it's absurd. But that's what PC enables, and that's why the left loves it so much.

Please provide an example beyond your ‘feelings’ where Trump disputed to position of another candidate as opposed to calling people liars or otherwise using personal attacks.

In all the debates Trump has initiated personal attacks.

It’s what he does. WHen someone get close in the polls there is a personal attack smear ot blood libel.

Some time ago some FReeper did the most amazing list of proper arguments. Despite all my efforts, I can’t find it. It was even humorous. I’d love to have it.

Lots of fantastic stuff has gone down the memory hole. I used to have a long list of favorite threads and most of them are now dead links.

Please provide a reason why I should bother. I never used "feelings" in my answer to you - go reread it. Find your own examples, or just screw off, I really don't care what you understand. For someone whose pissed that Trump calls names, you're being an ass yourself with the same behavior.
