Partly because, for the past umpteen years, the “conservatives” we support tell us we can go along for the ride, but we just need to sit in the back, sucking on our Slurpee. Until the next election when they want us to pony up for the gas money again.

I think some conservatives went all in for Trump when he talked about the wall, dug in when he was attacked, and then got in the habit of defending him no matter what.
