The thing is... the more I think about American history, the more I think there was an ersatz side to its Christianity that rendered the real side mostly into shadow.
I know I sound like a lot of screaming liberals... but the more I think about screaming liberals, the more I realize that if they had really met Jesus, most of them wouldn’t be screaming like that. They might be weeping in gratitude, though.
It’s the grace of the Lord that fills in the myriad holes that our sins otherwise create, and often we aren’t even aware of that unless we are someone like St. Francis, or John Newton, who can sing about “Amazing grace, that saved a wretch like me.”
But the patch of unshrunk cloth (one that isn’t of a kind with what it would patch) is one that looks okay for a while then comes loose. Usually at the worst time, too.
Uncorking the actual Christianity (getting out the proper patches) is what America needs to see, and it hasn’t seen it.
If Cruz won’t step up to that plate, then maybe God has something like a Trump presidency (so we at least get competent worldly management) in tandem with a revival at a lay level, on the plans. Just sayin’.
And it won't until hardship brings it low. We have become such a foolish people that no lessons will be learned until pain teaches them.
Think of Trump as King David. A flawed vessel that does the work of the Lord. David wasn’t perfect but God loved him anyways...
