Built in Helsinki, so if anyone’s deserving of kudos it’s the Finns. It is an impressive video.

Impressive piece of engineering. Using propulsion other than Propellers I would guess?

We could one-up them with “Variable Geometry Hull” technology. Not that it actually exists but we could at least float the idea.

The only thing Russia had to do with this icebreaker is to write the check to pay for it. It was developed and is being built by a company in Finland called Aker Artic.

On a "side" note (!), if you click on the link, you'll see an ad for "The Finest Hours," a new movie about a Coast Guard rescue in 1952. I saw it this weekend and can highly recommend it. It is an uplifting, soul-validating study in courage, ingenuity, and steadfastness. Nothing anti-American, sexual, or foul about it.
If you like exciting movies, especially with maritime themes, you'll love it. Too intense for kids. Think of it as "The Perfect Storm," without Clooney and with a happy ending.

I'm not posting this because I think Russia is great, but because WE should be doing it, FIRST AND BEST. Why? What do we really need icebreakers for? From what I understand the ones we've had spend most of their time in Antarctica. Any Alaskan ports that get iced in are also accessible by road.
