- Composer: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (27 January 1756 -- 5 December 1791) - Orchestra: Philharmonia Orchestra - Conductor: Herbert von Karajan
Although numbered first, this was actually the last of the four to be completed. Compared to the other three concertos, it is shorter in duration (two movements rather than three), and is much simpler in regard to both range and technique, perhaps in a nod to Leutgeb's, the horn player and Mozart's great friend, advanced age and (presumably) reduced capabilities at the time of composition.

Ahhh. Sublime.
My wife and I were enjoying the beach a few days ago, and we were assaulted by this "song" from Will Smith's daughter:
It is one of the most repetative, gross, obnoxious things I have every heard.
I turned to my wife, and said: "This is not Mozart."
You don’t mind if I don’t click the link, do you?
Divine, ethereal, sublime. Mozart is sui generis.... thanks.
Beautiful stuff
As a former French Horn player this is my favorite. It is more melodic than the other 3 and much easier to play.
Of course the “French Horns” in Mozart’s time did not have valves and were not chromatic. The composer had to know the limitations of the instrument in order to make a composition playable by the musician.
The lyrics are:
I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back! I whip my hair back!
They say listening to Mozart can increase your IQ.
Listening to that stuff can kill brain cells.
“’scuse me while I whip this out.” - Blazing Saddles.
You are clearly racist, sexist, Eurocentric, and likely heteronormative, and probably read without moving your lips, flaunting your privilege. You will be assigned to a reeducation camp in the new order.
I hope the reeducation camp won't make me listen to Hip Hop or Rap. I might hang myself with my shoelace.
Can you tell me the name of the hornist?
Yes, it is Dennis Brain. For my money the greatest horn player of all time. I had a scholarship to play the horn in college and performed all 4 of the Mozart concertos. Not As technically technically demanding as some, but easily my favorite.
Wonderful. Thank you.
I was a horn player in high school. This was the only concerto of Mozart’s that I could come anywhere close to playing. Simple melody and not a lot of embellishment.
I was first chair until my Senior year when some sophomore who could play circles around me knocked me down to 2nd chair. 2nd Chair parts for horn suck. I asked the director to kick me down to 3rd chair. The parts for first and third are pretty much the same. You probably know that.
The Sophomore who beat me out ended up playing in the Munich Symphony Orchestra.
I’ve always wondered why there are both French and English horns. Why not both English and French saxophones, for example? I figure you know that history.
English Horn
French Horn
You must be describing a tax payer???
Thank you. Someone I knew who played the French horn apparently was kidding. IIRC he said the French horn was held to the right side and an English horn was similar but held to the left side.
I think he was the same person who told me the Cleveland Browns was a black football team.
