My Mom bought a house a while back. After a couple of years found a floor safe, but could not locate the old owners. Eventually, she replaced that floor and just covered it up. I think I would have been too curious to do that.

Me too. I would have gone so far as to pay to have it opened.

Too bad she put a new floor over. You never know what may be in them, but it’s possible you may not WANT to know. I got my education as a cop and opened a few that were found in rivers, Lakes and gravel pits. The most money found was $100 plus change. The burglars spent that much in effort and didn’t get crap.
