Explaining Rubio
Freerepublic ^ | 02/02/2016 | bolobaby

I'm seeing a lot of questions about how Rubio got 23% of the vote in Iowa. The answer is surprisingly simple, although it is likely to inflame Trump supporters.

Trump has extremely high unfavorable ratings - possibly the highest of any presidential candidate since the metric began being measured. There are countless conservatives who simply *will not vote for him under any circumstances*. (Disclaimer: I am in this camp.)

Meanwhile, Trump supporters have been doing their best to discredit Cruz. Along with the establishment - who hates Cruz - it's a veritable piling-on. What the Trump supporters don't realize is that *attacking Cruz will not win Trump support*! Too many people will not vote for Trump, so if you discredit someone like Cruz, they start looking PAST Trump at the rest of the field. Who looks most palatable of the remaining candidates? Paul? Bush? Fiorina?

Why not Carson? Well, his debate performances were almost Stockdale-ish. OK, maybe that's too harsh. More like boring.

Meanwhile, Rubio did alright. So he looks like the next best choice.

Now, the people who will fall into this category are being swayed by specious attacks. They are unlikely to recognize that Rubio has been bought and sold by the GOPe - he's firmly in Boehner's and McConnell's pocket.

But there you have it.

I agree. That’s why I am for Cruz.

Just explaining why others went for him.

The point is Cruz cannot beat the witch. La Bamba has a better chance but will also fail. Trump is the only candidate tough enough to take on and beat the lib scum.

Soros counts a substantial number of the votes.
New citizen voters are being swarn in in wholesale lots just as Clinton did it in 1996.
States without voter ID laws will be intimidated by DoJ to not question anyone at all who presents himself at the polls.
The fix is in.

I honestly think that’s true no matter who the GOP nominates

Really? Cruz can never win? Can you explain why Cruz wins in head-to-head polls against Hillary and Trump loses?

Juuuust curious.

If another GOPe is nominated, many conservatives will stay home again and Hillary will win.

As much as I hope that it would not be the case, it is the case.

So what to do?

A true conservative must be nominated. And the only one with the organization and strategy to win is Cruz, which was proven last night.

Well, the polls I’ve seen have Trump beating her by 3 to 4 points. Rubio and Cruz not beating her. Cruz will never beat hillary......deal with it and get behind Trump.

All I know is if it’s Rubio, I ain’t voting for him...if it gives up Hillary, so be it, not like it makes any difference anyway.

Not sure which polls you are looking at. Here’s an aggregate from RCP:

Then there’s Trump:

Trump gets killed. I’d rather not throw my vote away on him. At least I can write in Cruz and say I voted my conscience.

And, anyway, I’d be happier with a Hillary win than a Trump win. At least when the country goes to sh!t, Hillary will be in office and the blame will fall on the D’s.

Better than getting betrayed by Trump, then have the country go to sh!t, and the blame fall on the R’s.

Cruz can win.

Trump needs to ignore Cruz who has little chance to advance past Iowa and concentrate on discrediting Rubio.

Oh yeah - just like those polls that showed Trump up by 17 in Iowa.

Trump is toast.

(Two can play at this game.)

I think there are a lot more people who would be willing to cross over from Trump and vote for Cruz if he gets the nomination than vice versa.

That's because we are pragmatists.

Somehow Rube has somehow gone unscathed in this battle.

He better gets his asbestos suit on soon.
