From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1965. A pioneer of counterculture-era psychedelic rock, the group was the first band from the San Francisco scene to achieve international mainstream success. They performed at the three most famous American rock festivals of the 1960sâMonterey (1967), Woodstock (1969) and Altamont (1969)âas well as headlined the first Isle of Wight Festival (1968). Their 1967 record Surrealistic Pillow is regarded as one of the key recordings of the "Summer of Love". Two hits from that album, "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit", are among Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
The "classic" line-up of Jefferson Airplane remained stable from 1967 to early 1970, and consisted of Marty Balin, Jack Casady, Spencer Dryden, Paul Kantner, Jorma Kaukonen and Grace Slick. The group broke up in 1972, and essentially split into the two bands Hot Tuna and Jefferson Starship. Jefferson Airplane was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, and honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.

God help me
Paul is dead. RIP Paul.
Where is Grace Slick? She could scream in tune.
I have come to really love these posts. I had forgotten how much really great music I used to know. Sometimes, not often, I wish I could go back to the early 70’s and do it all again.
A shiver in the dark ...

The crosstalk between Jorma and Jack is one of the sweetest sounds I know of on record.
...it's raining in the park but meantime
South of the river you stop and you hold everything..."
What no “Miracles” or “Tumblin” from the Red Octopus album. those were sexy songs. My roommates knew not to enter when I had company and that album was on the turntable.
My first rock concert was Jefferson Starship in Hawaii, first semester in college. I am glad you mom wouldn’t let you have that album as a kid.The song still stands as erotic, but in a longing way, in a in the moment way; not crass. How terrible that those we thought as wild and young, when we were very young, are passing on.
I have a black light somewhere and the lava lamp is in the living room. But with these passings, it is hard to get into the mood. Wait... I married my college sweetheart (watching the debate on DVR in the other room) so all is still good, very good.
Nice chatting with you. Thank-you for sharing your memories.
“All over my thighs.. I’m dreaming...dreaming...”
I never heard the ad again until Youtube came along.
Somebody to Love by Jefferson, was the only song I could get into.
It’s been about 40 years since I’ve played a Jefferson Airplane album. Fun stuff.
Just finished replacing the turntable belt that disintegrated about 30 years ago, and now I’m playing my vinyl again for the first time since then. For about 30 years the so-called experts kept telling me it was useless to spend any money trying to repair it...HAH!
I have a limestone Kenwood waiting for some attention. I’ll test with a vinyl of Night Walker.
Late for me. G’night.
“After Bathing at Baxters” was their best, with “Pillow” a close second.
