Ah-nold Schwarzenegger was a competitive body-builder who became an successful actor.

We like his characters, so we like him, too. This was enough to guarantee his election to Governor.

However, competitive body-building and acting experience don't translate well into governing, especially not governing a state like California.

Trump's successes were achieved as a competitive empire builder who became a reality TV star.

Just like with Ah-nold the Terminator, people like Trump's kayfabed The Donald persona, so they like Donald Trump, too.

This appears as though it could be enough to guarantee his election to POTUS.

The question is whether or not his successes at competitive empire building and being a reality TV star will translate well into governing something like the United States of America.

Donald Trump seems like a better bet than a young Senator who's yet to finish his first term in the Senate.

Barry obama's lack of experience, plus what he is good at, was a fool's bet and we players got suckered twice.

Trump looks pretty good in comparison.

Trump has MUCH MORE experience running things, building things, comparing him to a body building actor is just a little silly!!

CULT OF PERSONALITY. Nothing more. Really nothing in Trump’s record tells me he is a solid conservative. Fiscal? Maybe. But hey, all hail Trump. If I have to, I guess.

I made this comment yesterday responding to someone’s comment about how Cruz is the most conservative and Trump is the most electable:

“Cruz is by far the most doctrinally pure conservative - but still has flaws.
Trump is by far the most electable and expressing sufficiently conservative leanings - but still has flaws.”

That’s the problem right there...you compare the most conservative to the most electable...Sorry, I’ve been down this road too many times. The one that comes to mind most is when Arnold Schwarzenegger ran for Republican Gov in California. I voted for Tom McClintock (the most conservative and who backs Cruz now) against the popular vote of Arnold. NEVER...NEVER vote for someone who is the most electable/popular vs the most conservative...EVER!

Yes, it is. Which appears to be what the article is trying to do with the reference.

Trump isn't an easy person to figure out, no doubt about that.

It's been a lot of fun reading and listening to the expert's doing their best to find/explain the truth by using their own reactions and agendas.

Weirdest thing is how it took a kaybabed reality TV star to make our uber-boring Kabuki Theatre political reality so entertaining again.

Five Stars! Joe Bob (probably) says check it out.

Ah-nold Schwarzenegger was a competitive body-builder who became an successful actor and successful businessman.

The problem is that people don't have a full sense of history. Arnold was sold EXACTLY the same way Trump is sold now... and they have similar resumes (minus the action movies and bodybuilding).

I hope not!! Schwarzenegger ran on lowering the taxes for registering your car among other things. After he was elected my $42 bill has since gone to $138
He made all kinds of deals with the democrats including letting a murderer get years off his sentence because it was a son of the majority leader at the time.

Obama was no more a constitutional law scholar than you are. He was guest lecturer and mostly spoke about racial law. He had no practical experience in any courts concerning the constitution. As a guest lecturer any idiot off the streets with the right connections could do the same job.

Cruz is the real deal when it comes to that subject and Cruz probably could recite the constitution. Trump probably hasn’t even read it since he was in military school.

Maybe to you.

To me Trump came into the political world with a statement about immigration and a statement about Muslims that was revolutionary and extreme — until you thought about it and then realized that Trump was changing the agenda for the election. Arnold did nothing of the sort. He was drafted in the wake of anti Davis emotion. Arnold only had his celebrity going for him. Trump would be like Arnold if he did not bring up the immigration and Muslim discussions before anyone else.

Of course, Trump’s business exploits are part of the package and I approve of this because that is how I can give Trump credit for leadership. (Should transfer to politics, and it seems to be working)

Now, Did Arnold’s business acumen transfer to being able to get political changes in California? No, but in truth, Arnold was up against a very large left wing force in California. Governance of the country will be easier for Trump than the job Arnold took on and failed in CA.

I am not a fan of Trump, but I will say there are significant differences.

Arnold was a celebrity banking on celebrity and nothing else.

Trump is also a celebrity, banking on celebrity, but he has also made money in business, lost money in business and run businesses. He has made decisions affecting a large population of employees.

Arnold had hopes for California that he was not able to do much with the overruling Democratic force that had it's grip on the State.

Bull! Arnold was a kennedy wanna be in RINO clothing that did his best to promote and advance the liberal agenda once he was in, one prime example was hi promotion of the eco agenda, going so far as to put moonbeams eco nazi back in charge to cripple businesses and drive people and jobs out of the state.

Do you always make such assumptions about people? You know what happens when someone assumes...

The info on Obama is fact but you are right, Trump probably has read the constitution since high school.

You might be right.

Otoh, if Arnold and Trump appear to be sold the same way, that perhaps is as much of, or more of, a function and the nature of the medium, than what it might say to the viewing audience about either candidate, then or now.

I don't agree with you about their resumes, but I do think they share similar character traits.

Both became champions in a highly competitive arena, and then both became successful in front of a viewing audience, though for somewhat different reasons.

Beyond that, their resumes are very different.

Trump did begin life with a leg up and then was given additional prep from 8th grade to high school graduation by his having gone to a military school/college prep school.

Once out of school, he developed and honed his skills while learning to succeed in a very tough place, and then took Trump, Inc. worldwide, again very successfully.

Next, he learned the arts involved with television and then became successful expressing himself and The Donald in those art forms, just as he has with his brand and with his brand of ultra-high end real estate.

Block diagramming his resume, I see someone who is uniquely prepared thanks to the unique skill set he has acquired due to God given, and by his efforts' self-realized, talent.

Then, for an added bonus, Trump is at an age to have experienced both "Before" and "After" Americas.

I really don't think you can compare a resume like that to anyone.

All of the above seems to explain why when he first announced, and then simply commented about various things voters have been fuming about (and politicians have been cashing in on while doing nothing), suddenly EVERYONE hopped to and got busy looking busy like Dad or The Boss had just unexpectedly shown up on site.

NO ONE has that kind of mojo in this race, or in any race I can remember, like Trump has.

No one other than maybe the late great Dale Earnhardt, The Intimidator.

The cult of personality and worship. The emotional response.

Trump supporters, or Cruz supporters?
