How Ted Cruz Came to Know Jesus
The Resurgent ^ | January 20, 2016 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 01/20/2016 6:31:51 PM PST by DaveyB

I hear friends say Ted Cruz sounds like a preacher. They say he is using the gospel to round up voters. They don't like it and they are not sure if Ted is authentic. The Ted Cruz I know is the Ted Cruz who watched his sister consumed by a heroine addiction. She died of an overdose. The Ted Cruz I know is the Ted Cruz who maxed out his credit cards to rescue his sister’s son from that situation. The Ted Cruz I know is the Ted Cruz who, as a boy, was abandoned by his father and watched his mother struggle. And the Ted Cruz I know is the Ted Cruz who came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior and credits the Lord with bringing back his father.

Ted Cruz is a not an academic evangelical. He's a country music evangelical. He lost his father, found Jesus, got back his father, lost his sister, and did what it took to keep his family above water. When he gets on a stage and connects with Christian audiences, yes he is trying to woo Christians to his side, but he also believes in the power of scripture. This is not a stunt for Ted Cruz. His father walked out on the family, lost himself in a bottle, and was finally rescued by a Bible Study and a preacher willing to debate and answer questions. That preacher's time saved Rafael Cruz and the family was restored.

Cruz supporters want to tell you the story of Rafael and Ted and how they came to have a very personal relationship with Jesus with this terrific video. They want to tell you why it matters and what it means to the way Cruz would govern. CruzFaithInAction.com is a new website set up to share that story. The website has been put together by Keep the Promise PAC. My good friend Ben Howe edited the video.

I have seen the video. Just watch the first five minutes. Go do it.

“They say he is using the gospel to round up voters.”

Well, when he goes about the country condemning gay marriage, and then tells a homosexual donor that it will not be his top priority to fight, then what else can you think?

He also condemns a lot of other things, too.

This is Erick Erickson sucking up to the max. I’m almost embarrassed for him.

Erickson may be projecting a little.

Eric had a very ill wife, I believe, just last year. Honestly, I don’t quite know if she even survived, so, he is going through some stuff. TRUMP was raised solid, had a wonderful childhood and his family is healthy and close, and he is successful to an “extreme”.

Cruz is his kind of conservative. If Cruz were smoking the field, like TRUMP, we would all be behind Cruz. Seems however, we need to actually win the nomination in this country, though, and the times are too desperate to stand on religious purity alone, when our front runner is prolife, pro-religious liberty, which used to be the standard for a conservative.

Just suggesting to read the New Testament to see what Jesus said about how one becomes a Christian.

Trump is also Christian...

Trump:Why do I have ot repent or ask for forgiveness if I am not making mistakes

Trump:I'm not sure if I ever asked God's forgiveness

ESV 1 John 1:10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him (Christ) a liar, and his word is not in us.

I agree with Cruz. Obergfell is a symptom of a bigger problem. The culture is drifting away from the whole Judeo-Christian core. It’s reflected in the politics of power. We can regain some sanity in the culture if we can break up the consolidation of federal power that is being used by the left to impose a new civil religion on all of us. That is task number 1. Restore the rule of Constitutional principles. You’ve got to set the broken bone first if you want it to heal right.

Peace,

SR

Trump was asked last year what his favorite Bible verse was after he said it was his favorite book.

“Well, I wouldn’t want to get into it, because to me that’s very personal,” Trump said. “You know, when I talk about the Bible, it’s very personal, so I don’t want to get into verses.”

“There’s no verse that means a lot to you?” an interlocutor asked. “That you think about or say?”

“The Bible means a lot to me, but I don’t want to get into specifics,” Trump said.

“Even to cite a verse that you like?”

“No, I don’t want to do that.”

Another question: “Are you an Old Testament or a New Testament guy?”

“Probably equal,” Trump said. “I think it’s just an incredible, the whole Bible is an incredible—”

..many candidates have thrown the Name of Jesus around as a political device, but Ted Cruz not only knows where Second Corinthians is, he knows what it means. God bless and protect this man...

...and then tells a homosexual donor that it will not be his top priority to fight...

Cruz's response was to indicate a more general priority in defending the Constitution. Are you just trying to score points are do you actually not understand?

Cruz: "No. I would say defending the Constitution is a top priority. And that cuts across the whole spectrum - whether it's defending [the] First Amendment, defending religious liberty, stopping courts from making public policy issues that are left to the people...
"I also think the 10th Amendment of the Constitution cuts across a whole lot of issues and can bring people together. People of New York may well resolve the marriage question differently than the people of Florida or Texas or Ohio....That's why we have 50 states - to allow a diversity of views. And so that is a core commitment."

There is a thread covering Trump here:

Dear Christians, If You Vote For A Godless Man, You Are Asking For Tyranny

He's not a Christian....not our problem but his.

I would like for someone to ask him this: "Mr. Trump do you think you are a Sinner?"......I think we all know what his answer would be.

He dragged out his mothers Bible, he said it was, as if to show he knows what one looks like.

Mr. Trump....your mother cannot save you, nor your good works. It's called Faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, if you don't have that, stop pretending and let it go. You may not really know him, but HE knows you.

I am not looking for a Spiritual leader, I have one. I want a leader who will Restore America, if it be you OK, if Cruz more the better.

Trump at least needs an advisor who will inform him to keep quiet on matters of faith until he understands, if not lead him to a saving faith in Christ.

From 9.21.2015

“Do you believe that it’s important to ask God for forgiveness?” David Brody asked Trump in the interview, which Bloomberg reports was recorded in California on the eve of last week’s candidate debate.

“Well, I do,” Trump said. “I think it’s great. I consider communion to be a very important thing. You know, when I go to church and I take communion I consider that asking for forgiveness in my own way. And I do think it’s a great thing and I think it’s an important thing and it makes you feel good.”
