Officials say a dog owner is in trouble with the law after allegedly trying to trick the SPCA into putting down an innocent dog.
According to FOX 19, Jason Dotson’s dog was not on a leash when it attacked a therapy dog and its owner as they were walking.
Police say the pit bull caused severe injuries to the therapy dog, who has been healing for the last few months. Dotson was eventually charged with failing to confine his animal and he was ordered to put the dog down.
When he brought the dog to the SPCA for euthanization, officials say they knew something was wrong.
Authorities told FOX 19 that Dotson had adopted a similar dog from the SPCA nine days after the attack and attempted to pass it off as the same dog.
“Defendant brought a dog that wasn’t his dog, said it was his dog, and turned that over to the SPCA so they would destroy an innocent dog that hadn’t done anything to anybody,†said Ryan Nelson, assistant Hamilton County prosecutor.
An SPCA worker spotted a difference in the dogs and learned the dog’s true identity.
“It’s one thing, Mr. Dotson, for you to ignore a court order. It’s quite another thing to try to perpetrate a fraud on this court. In my 10 years as a judge, I can’t recall a more cold and heartless act,†said Judge Brad Greenberg, with the Hamilton County Municipal Court.
Dotson was sentenced to 28 days in jail.
Baby, the pit bull puppy who Dotson tried to pass off as his other dog, will be getting a second chance at adoption.

Interesting story but I thought the problem with weird symbols had been corrected. Have we regressed or is it only me seeing the symbols again?
Not quite as bad as that, but my nephew, who worked for Delta for 30 years swears it is true. He was transferred to Palm Beach, FL and about the second day on the job, he was told this story - and thought they were trying to trick a Newbie, but afterwards everyone swore by it.
The front desk was notified that a dog was being shipped down from NYC and to keep an eye out for it as someone would arrive later on and pick it up.
Sure enough, the carrier arrives and they put it in a corner. HOURS later, someone remembers about the dog and they go and check on it. Mother of God, the poor thing is dead - probably dehydrated. What to do?
In a panic, one of the guys suggests they get a similar dog from the pound and get rid of the dead one. They dump the dead dog and replace it with one similar in size but not in breed. They're hoping that once the carrier left the airport, they are off the hook. ANYTHING could have happened since.
An old lady shows up to claim the dog. They hand her the carrier, she looks inside, and starts screaming. "That's not my dog! that's not my dog!"
"Sure it is lady, we've been looking out for him all day."
"MY DOG IS DEAD!" she screamed, "my kids flew him down so I could be near him."
The two guys do not work for Delta anymore.
True or not, I thought it would make a great SitCom skit.
