While the nation's legal scholars differ over the exact meaning of the Constitution's requirement that a person must be a "natural born citizen" to become president, they're unanimous in saying Ted Cruz is wrong about an important point.
"As a legal matter, the question is quite straightforward and settled law," Cruz has said. "People will continue to make political noise about it, but as a legal matter it is quite straightforward."
In fact, the experts say, it is neither settled nor straightforward.
It's not settled â because the Constitution does not define "natural born," a phrase that appears in the nation's founding document only once.
And though the federal courts have chewed on it from time to time, the U.S. Supreme Court has never officially said what it means.

Cruz’s interest in constitutional originality seems to depend on whether it benefits him or not.
Go Trump!
Zero chance of that happening. How did that effort pam out with Barack Obama?
The chairman of the DNC herself has already ruled that out.
The facts are facts, Cruz is not eligible to be POTUS or Vice POTUS because he’s a Natural Born Citizen of Canada, not the United States. And I have never levied vitriolic nastiness or personal attacks against Ted Cruz or his supporters. Furthermore, Donald Trump is not paying me anything and I have been here at Free Republic for over 10 years.
Trump is a certifiable lunatic who is controlled by the mob in New York. He is not going anywhere.
And the Republicans plan to use a brokered convention to keep Trump from becoming the nominee.
Screw them all. Support the candidate of your choice. Never give up.
We have to rely on English Common law for our definition of NBC as does Canada. But English common law gives us both the same definition. Natural born means born in the country. the difference is, Canada went ahead and codified NBC back in 1947 and we still have to sit around and argue about English Common law. By the laws of Canada in effect at the time of his birth, laws which are based on the same English common law that guides our understanding of our own constitution, Ted Cruz was born a Natural Born Citizen of Canada.
One of Cruz’s opponents in the primary has sued NH Sec. State. on the issue. Pretty good shot at standing, this person is on the GOP primary ballot, and has an interest in opposing only qualified candidates.
The Democrats don’t play by the same rules the Republicans do. All you need is a Democrat Sec. of State to keep him off the ballot in one or more states. Or Hillary could sue if she is losing, something McCain wouldn’t do. There is no question she would have standing. Also there is no dispute that Cruz was born outside the US, so it’s a completely different legal case.
And are you really ready to trust he word of crazy Debbie?
She was a citizen at the time of Trump’s birth but that is completely irrelevant because Donald Trump was born on US soil and is, thus, 100% Natural Born American citizen. Ted Cruz, on the other hand, was born on Canadian soil and was legally considered a Natural Born Citizen of Canada the instant he was born. I can’t wait to get my check from Mr. Trump btw.
Sleeper agent?
You've been here for 10 years so you can't be bought? Tell that to KGB or the mafia. You act exactly like a Trump's paid shill of whom there are currently tens of thousands on the web including Freerepublic.
Kate Smith has yet to sing on this one.
Donald Trump’s mother was never and will never be a natural born citizen of these United States because she is a natural born citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
At least Ted Cruz’s mother was a natural born citizen of the United States. That makes Ted Cruz a natural born citizen of the United States irrespective of where he was born.
LOL. And they imply that we “birthers” are the crazy ones. I love Donald Trump. He’s a great American who will make America Great again. That’s the only reason I support him. also you will never pull me off the throat once I am latched on.
You don’t understand what natural born citizenship means. In all actuality, both of Donald Trump’s parents could have been illegal aliens and he would still be a natural born citizen of the United States (like Marco Rubio). Similarly, both of Ted Cruz’s parents could have been illegal aliens in Canada and he still would have been a Natural Born Citizen of Canada. their Law is clear on that and their law is based on the same English common law that our constitution was founded on.
Which qualifies Cruz. See:Constitutional Topic: Citizenship>Natural Born Citizen (scroll down)
I’m afraid it’s not that simple.

I think that because the Democrats got away with the Kenyan-Indonesian usurper on the throne for 8 years, that we should get even with them by having a Canadian-Globalist who promises Constitutionality, except on one little clause, on the throne for 8 years. That will show them.
The Supreme Court's opinion in United States v. Wong Kim Ark
It is universally admitted, both in the English courts and in those of our own country, that all persons born within the Colonies of North America, whilst subject to the Crown of Great Britain, are natural-born British subjects.
Nothing is better settled at the common law than the doctrine that the children, even of aliens, born in a country while the parents are resident there under the protection of the government and owing a temporary allegiance thereto, are subjects by birth.
The notion that there is any common law principle to naturalize the children born in foreign countries, of native-born American father and mother, father or mother, must be discarded. There is not, and never was, any such common law principle.
Persons who are born in a country are generally deemed citizens and subjects of that country." Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, Conflict of Laws, ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâç 48.
