You might be right, but why no cameras pointing in directions other than toward the protesters?

You don’t find that a little curious? Do you lack intellectual curiosity?

Calling them stupid is not an insult - its the truth.

I work in the power industry - wow they make me angry. I can’t believe they can be so dumb, and film themselves. The first guy on the pole seems retarded or something. It’s an amazing display of ignorance and brain dead stupidity!!

No problem. I watched the video in it entirety and was curious about what issue caused his facial defect. He definitely did not strike me as unintelligent.

You’re really looking way too much into this. You haven’t an idea how many people would be involved for fedzilla to get access to those camera’s. It is not something that could be kept quiet without a bonafide warrant. I’m telling you, with the amount of stress these companies are under to transition to the new regulations, they have zero cycles to be playing cat and mouse with those idiots and breaking TONs of standards/practices just to let the fed into their system to view a few cameras. It would just be easier for the fed to stash go-pro’s in the treeline (and probably more effective).

I and other others on this thread ARE RIGHT! Those are security cameras on a SCADA network. Did you read the link I posted?? Read, and THINK!

First thing I noticed was the SCADA marking...that’s like a flashing neon sign to those familiar with it. You’re right, the second scene was obviously a substation. The first cameras they took came off a pole with 3 or 4 transformers. I have no idea what for...but obviously some sort of nearby equipment is being powered.

They screwed up.

I spent some time in the industry too. Worked in a nuclear power plant, yada, yada.

I don’t like the concealed camera. And, it was concealed.

Whether the private company, or the feds (the pole was at the edge of the fencing, so yeah, anyone could have stuck it up there or take it down, then it is still inappropriate.

Why only one direction? Why concealed? Put it in a plexi box with you are under surveillance sticker, if weather is the real issue.

Why are you bothering to defend this?

Not necessarily in agreement with the methods of the protesters (taking over a fed facility, no matter how dinky it might be), but a couple of things:

- people think of Oregon as this green, lush, and scenic state, and some of it is. But this area of the state most definitely is not. Desolate, and most certainly not picturesque. Having cattle, horses, or other animals grazing on those lands would actually be an improvement, as it would give one something to keep themselves entertained. This is not some sort of national treasure like Yosemite - the land should be in the hands of the people (ranchers) that owned it, not the Feds.

- while I think Pete Santilli is a bit of a blowhard (and a 9/11 Truther), he is providing a worthy service with his coverage of the "occupiers" and showing that they aren't wild-eyed individuals, which is what would happen if it was only the usual media suspects allowed to massage the message.

- compare the Occupy Wall Street bunch (who were occupying public land, as well) to the behavior of the guys at this shack in Oregon. The spoiled children in NYC were pooping on police cars and making a mess in general; the guys in Oregon have actually been fixing up a facility that was apparently in some disrepair (our tax dollars hard at work).

- last, it is beyond clear that the Feds are trying to drive the Hammonds off of their property. We should all be concerned about that, regardless of the probably misguided way that Bundy and Co. are trying to get people to focus on what is happening, not just in OR, but out West.

They are showing up to comply with FERC and NERC requirements;

Utility Substations for the Physical Security Requirements of NERC-CIP-014

Effective in 2016, the North American Reliability Corp. (NERC) will implement a new set of security requirements (CIP-014-1) for utility substations to effectively deter, detect, delay, assess, communicate and respond to physical security threats, with non-compliance fees reaching as high as $1 million per day of violation.

Mark it Surveillance Equipment and you are being watched. Don’t hide the cameras.

Why make US Citizens paranoid? It really isn’t right. Right? THINK about it.

The IP address of the camera says it's not connected directly to the internet.

It is a private IP address anyone can use, which makes sense for a closed network.

I guess folks just don’t want to “hear” it; there is no conspiracy here. There is however lots and lots of regulatory laws these guys broke on their ‘Murica quest.

If its in the substation, its on property owned by the power company. I don’t know about Oregon, but in my neck of the woods the power company is a private company. IOW, its their property and they can put up cameras if they want to...just like Wal Mart.

Besides, for all we know there is a sign on the gate stating there are cameras.

These facilities are in the middle of nowhere...what in the heck could they spy on, other than the substation?
