Oregon Patriots ^

Our government using sophisticated equipment to watch the Oregon protesters, and probably a lot of other Americans.

Youtube video of cameras I am not surprise, but I am saddened. Grey boxes on telephone polls. the camera shoots through what looks like a grey metal surface. SMH

Are these the protesters that have taken control of and are occupying govt buildings? Now if that same govt remotely watches the protesters in the same govt buildings there is an issue?

on second look, it looks like it shoots through what is designed to look like a black sticker.

You all know what to watch for. Photo and post pictures on FR of this stuff from around the country?

Why is it even a federal building? Is it constitutional that they take over ranger land or even own state land outside of DC and military bases?

That probably isn’t “government surveillance” camera’s. It looks like an external sub-station in the background of at least one of the locations, the camera’s are ESP’s (electronic security perimeters). What they have probably done is stolen the power company’s equipment and that is actionable. Many, many electric companies have these installed at almost all their sub-stations for varying reasons.

Also, I believe in CIP5, electronic surveillance is mandatory at remote site’s (not sure about CIP3). These guys stepped in it.

1). Why would it be concealed?

2). Why would it show up where it wasn’t a few weeks before?

There is a push underway in the electric industry know as CIP5. It is a cyber-security initiative run by NERC. The final deadline to be compliant is only a couple months away (most companies are trying to “go live” by end of Feb. so they can shake down their systems and migrate away from the CIP3 regulations —overhead—). Some companies have been installing these things as linesmen are visiting certain poles, other designated areas not so heavily visited are most likely now being scheduled and a heavy rollout is underway. Non-compliance carries with it very steep fines.
Judging by the camera’s being labeled with the wi-fi vlan IP address (dumb idea BTW) and the SCADA marking’s on teh exterior of the secured boxes, these guys basically just messed with the electric grid in an albeit non-intrusive way.

Oh, and it is not a concealed thing, it’s more a weather proof thing and security thing (i.e., no critters getting at the infrastructure).

SCADA is the electrical grid communications protocol.

It’s SCADA communications monitoring a nearby switchyard.

Those people in the video are really ignorant.

It is concealed. It is designed to look like a sticker.

Maybe, you are right, but why would there not be one covering the other directions?

Look, we are in a surveillance, 1984 era. Just look at the “traffic cameras” all over the hi-ways. Some have good usage with wrecks and traffic flow, but they have a potential for, well, 1984.

You are probably right, but if these things were installed in the last two weeks, it’s understandable why people might be suspicious. Will be interested to see if the power company asks to get them back. If no one files a criminal complaint against these people for theft, or sues to get them back, that would speak volumes.

If they belong to the power company and the feds convinced the power company to provide video access, they’d need a warrant which at some time would have to be produced.
