Air Force apologizes for advertising a 'fun shoot' at range on Martin Luther King Day using image of murdered civil rights leader
- The controversial poster advertised a skeet shoot at an Air Force base in Georgia
- The flyer promised attendees would get 'two rounds and lunch' for $20 and featured a picture of Martin Luther King, Jr.
- Air Force officials issued a statement apologizing for the 'insensitive' flyer
Officials at an Air Force base in Georgia drew criticism on Thursday after posting controversial flyers advertising a 'Martin Luther King, Jr. fun shoot' featuring a picture of the civil rights leader, who was gunned down in 1968.
The flyers announced a gathering at the Robins Air Force Base Skeet Club scheduled for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. For $20, the poster promised, attendees would get 'two rounds and lunch.'
The Air Force base, which is located in the town of Warner Robins in central Georgia, released a statement on Thursday apologizing for the poster, calling it 'inappropriate' and an 'honest mistake.'
'We didn't make the flyer,' Leroy Minus told the newspaper. 'We squared it away. We got rid of the picture.'
In the conclusion of the Air Force base's statement officials said they 'hold the legacy of Dr. King in the highest regard.'

They could have really upset the Libs if they had advertised it as the ROBERT E. LEE BIRTHDAY FUN SHOOT!
I can see the Libs foaming at the mouth right now.

Great timing ... I just looked it up and Robert E. Lee's birthday was on January 19, 1807.

I bought a watch from the markdown rack at Walmart, and took great delight in telling all I had a 'Martin Luther King watch!' They'd look at me quizzically and I'd show them the watch face. It was branded Remington, in their logo. Always used their catchphrase as I moved to show it--"It's a Remington!" Fun for all!

I always go to the range on MLK Day (or as I like to call it, Robert E Lee’s Birthday). It is always crowded on that day.
