Donald Trump is actually right about something: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) is not a natural-born citizen and therefore is not eligible to be president or vice president of the United States.
Cruz is, of course, a U.S. citizen. As he was born in Canada, he is not natural-born. His mother, however, is an American, and Congress has provided by statute for the naturalization of children born abroad to citizens. Because of the senatorâs parentage, he did not have to follow the lengthy naturalization process that aliens without American parents must undergo. Instead, Cruz was naturalized at birth. This provision has not always been available. For example, there were several decades in the 19th century when children of Americans born abroad were not given automatic naturalization.
What I think Obama did, was to lie about his birthplace. I think the lie was done when he was born to give him US citizenship.
However, under the current understanding of the eligibility requirements, his American citizen mother was enough to give him natural born status. This is why no court has ruled against him and no court ever will.
Nope....the thing is, his mother wasn’t old enough to confer citizenship on him. And nobody REALLY knows WHO his father REALLY was.
Who cares about any individual candidacy? Think about the damage to the country.
Your view and backup contradicts the current 21st century understanding that Cruz’s status comes from the constitution under the meaning of natural born.
This is what will be argued should it be challenged.
I do not believe there is a age requirement for a mother/us citizen....
Never heard of one that I am aware of.
What damage?
Remember when Jim Robinson shut down this nonsense?
“Who was the doctor that delivered Obama in the U.S.?”
It appears to be a David Sinclair who died in 2003.
“Surely a mixed race baby was unusual at that time.”
Probably not so much in Hawaii.
“Obama wasn’t born in the U.S. most likely.”
Barry Goldwater, George Romney, and John McCain weren’t born in the US and they all ran for President. But that doesn’t matter as they had American parents. Obama’s mother was American no matter where he was born and conferring citizenship from the mother has been our practice since the 1920s.
Where Barky was born is far less important than where his allegiance lies, and that’s certainly not with the American people.
It is a very slippery slope.
Obama’s father was not a U.S. citizen.
Seems like someone would have noticed that Constitutional violation before Obama served 7 years as president.
“She never applied for or was granted citizenship. She retained her temporary status and returned to the US after about 4 years.”
That is what Ted Cruz is claiming, and it may be true in whole or part. Nonetheless, Ted Cruz is playing fast and loose with the truth for some reason, because we know he is shading the truth at least to some degree by not disclosing the fact one or both of his parents had to be Canadian citizens or Canadian Permanent Residents when Ted Cruz was born in order for him to qualify under Canadian law to acquire Canadian citizenship at birth. Since we have been informed he was a Canadian citizen at birth and had to renounce that Canadian citizenship in 2014, it appears to be indisputable that one or both parents were Canadian citizens or Permanent Canadian Permanent Residents at the time Ted Cruz was born. Since Ted Cruz has been less than forthcoming about this indisputable evidence, the rest of the timeline and events must be held suspect as well until reliable and independent evidence can be obtained to confirm or deny what Senator Ted Cruz and others have to claim about the timeline and what they allegedly did or did not do with respect to Canadian citizenship. It should also be noted that it is customary for the wife to share the same Canadian Permanent Resident status as her husband in order for him to qualify for that status and for him to receive approval for naturalization as a Canadian citizen. Since we know he was naturalized as a Canadian citizen, this is very strong circumstantial evidence suggesting Eleanor Cruz may have done so as well to make it possible for Rafael Cruz to do so.
Assuming the circumstances of the Canadian law means one or both were Canadian citizens at the time Ted Cruz was born, a possible explanation for the timeline problems may be found in the rules for Canadian Permanent Resident status. The applicant does not have to remain resident in Canada during the full period of time. One or both of the Cruz parents could hav been in Canada earlier than their timelines have revealed and begun the Permanent Resident period at an earlier date, returned to the United States for awhile, and then returned to Canada to complete the required 3 and 4 year periods. If so, Rafael Cruz at the very least could have become a Canadian citizen by 1970. Whatever actually did happen, Ted Cruz is holding out on us when he did not disclose his parents Canadian Permanent Resident status, or did he?
We debated this on FR prior to Cruz’s announcement. The generally accepted view is that he has a constitutional right. He did not need statutory naturalization to be a citizen. He was natural born by constitution.
This is the legal argument that will be used on any challenge and thus far no challenge has yet been taken up by any court.
You forgot the President must have lived in the country for 14 years prior.
That is conspiratorial speculation.
there is not an aggrieved party to take it up yet. By the time there is, it will be too late.
I did not read much of the rest of that post, but Cruz’s father became a Canadian legal resident (like a green card). The mother did not.
You need to go to his site and other places and read his personal story, biography, and history. Some of your misunderstandings and conspiratorial conjecture might be answered there.
Well, that is the law. he will have to be elected before someone has standing to file as a plaintiff.
That’s a given...
In light of past decisions related to two party dynamics, I would have to disagree.
By the way, I am currently aggrieved because of all this baloney from Trump. I fully expected it to come from the rats. But not from republicans.
He looks exactly like X.
