Some of the professionals avoided the tiring and dangerous paddle out, using jet skis to reach the swells. "There were some solid waves," surfer Travis Eayn said.
From the cliff at Pillar Point in Half Moon Bay, photographer tried to predict which waves surfers would dare to ride. There was one injury reported Thursday when a surfer suffered a dislocated shoulder.
The high surf advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Friday.
That wave was so big it had waves on its face.
You’re pretty good, but though I’ve never surfed, I can give you some pointers on how to do that better.
That was the first and only time I’ve tried surfing. It was an OK experience, but I prefer more exciting challenges like stamp collecting and crossword puzzles.
All right, well, I offered.
Thanks. I appreciate the offer. :)
Check this video out. It’s only got 10.7 million hits at YouTube.

Man, that’s so insane ... I’d do it if I could!
Wow. Those guys are crazy. Brave but crazy.
Take it from me, it’s so easy you wouldn’t believe it.
(I think I’m starting to believe I actually did do it)
Too rough for good fishin...
When I win that billion dollar lotto I’ll hire you to surf it for me. ;-)
That is really impressive. Next time put the cell phone on a cord around your neck.
You put your left foot in
You put your right foot out
You put your left foot in
And you shake it all about
Amazing. Thanks.
St Naizire, France.
My niece and nephew went to Malibu High since his dad was a teacher there. We would meet for dinner and I’d say how was your day. He’d grin and say we surfed during lunch. lol
This was 2 years ago. He’s in college now.
lol
Ah — thanks! I grew up on the Central Coast of CA where “everybody” surfed. The water/wave action in that pic from France, as like the video of the guys trying to catch the waves up in Half Moon Bay, looks like what I’m used to, although storm-sized huge. The waves in Hawaii are massive and frightening, but also nearly perfect and uniform in curl and break, whereas massive frightening waves in these other places are wilder and sloppier, and probably tougher to surf.
I still get out to Steamer Lane from time to time. If you can manage a good day at the Lane you can handle almost anything of equivalent size anywhere else. IMO.
Where is “Steamer Lane”?
