Watch out, wildlife photographers ~ a road traffic camera in Canada might be giving you a run for your money.
The CCTV camera captured a snowy owl in flight, looking stunning against a white winter background above a Montreal freeway.

Awesome raptor.
Did they send the owl a speeding ticket?
Owl: “hey, you’re not food.”
Whoooo knows where she roosts? I see no license plate.
In 1976 while guarding an ammo point at Wildflecken, West Germany, I was walking the perimeter with another soldier who was on the opposite side of the ammo point. Shortly after midnight, I was struck on the head from behind, my helmet liner knocked from my head, and I was driven to my knees by the force of the blow.
At first, I thought we were under assault by somebody trying to break into the ammo point, but there was no one around. Standing up, I picked up my helmet liner to replace it and saw that there were three large, deep scratches in the helmet liner. Upon looking around the area further, I spotted a very large owl perched on one of the spotlight towers. My only assumption was that this owl had thought it had seen something edible in the shine of my helmet liner and had made a swipe at it.
Although I spotted the owl .. or one similar .. on several occasions later, it never hit at me again, probably determining that I was inedible.
A wise old Owl, eh? :-)
Here, Long Island, NY, is not prime snowy owl country.
I was traveling home 40 years ago in some light snow when something made me stop the car, get out, and watch....a Snowy Owl hovering/hunting over a field near my house... Immediately thought why is this owl here...why is he hunting during the day.
Later the light snow turned into one of the worst blizzards of the year. I figured the owl knew it was coming and was getting fed while he could. Why he was so far south I could’t figure till the other day when I watched a PBS (yeah that PBS...I try to keep away from it). It explained that juvenile Owls head pretty far south for a year or two to polish their hunting skills and head back to the tundra to breed.
Beautiful creatures, these Snowy Owls.
I recall walking in the north woods of Wisconsin one evening by myself. Quiet - snow all around. I saw this huge owl (brown) fly through the dense tree limbs (deciduous - no leaves). It was amazing - no sound. No swish from the wings, no rattling of the branches it was flying through - like a ghost. Makes sense seeing as it doesn’t eat otherwise - but it was amazing to be that close to it in flight and no sound for such a huge bird.
WOW, a white spotted owl.
This is a moving camera? Since when did traffic cameras move?
Is this a no fly zone?
He got an EZ-PASS.
Beautiful bird. Might put our barnyard owls to shame. Thank you for posting.
The wise old owl sat in the oak
The more he saw, the less he spoke
The less he spoke, the more he heard
Now, wasn’t he a wise old bird?
Yes, a magnificent animal.
Very cool story ....you were in *his* territory. :)
There was a place in southern Vermont, by the faamily cabin, where the Great-Horned Owls roosted in the pine trees. We were hiking through the area, trying to get home before dark, not realizing that we weren’t alone in the forest As we passed through the grove, maybe a dozen masssive owls came out of the trees with a silent *WHOOSH* sound of their powerful wings. Probably beginning their nightly hunt sooner than they planned. It was a awe inspiring moment. Our hearts stopped. We ducked down to our knees.
