I’m sure there are FReepers who have gone duck hinting in a baot — do people often do that during a period major storm activity?

I never went duck hunting in a storm, but a few years ago, we were at church and I told my brother that the Coast Guard had just posted small craft warnings on the Great Lakes.

I asked if we were going sailing after church. We did.

Had a great time. I think that was the first time I’d ever voluntarily worn a PFD in a decent sized boat.

Some guys will hunt (or fish) in weather that I certainly wouldn't take a chance on. The very deadly Armistice Day blizzard of 1940 took a lot of hunters by surprise as the day started out nice, but had there been timely and accurate weather forecasts in those days, my guess is that most people would have stayed put.

Got caught in a sudden storm on the Mississippi once. Was in a 16’ aluminum outboard. Wasn’t so much scared of the waves as the lightning.

Best duck hunting is in crappy weather. Makes them move and fly low.

They go past so fast that it is hard to hit them. I think the point is to drink beer with the guy’s.

I don't think standing up in a small fishing boat and firing a shotgun off is a wise thing to do.

Unless you like being propelled backwards out of the boat.

The best time to hunt ducks/geese, is during the worst weather. They move and fly more, to get out of the weather and to feed.

Back in the day, when I hunted ducks, I wore waders most of the time. My guess is, they had waders on when the boat overturned, and they filled with water, and could not get them off, before they were pulled under the water. Even with a life jacket on, the weight of the water in the waders, clothes, etc., would have been too much to keep them floating.
