So there could actually be a state that is Muslim if that state’s constitution does not prohibit a state religion?

This is what the Constitution would allow. I am not arguing that state established religions would be a good idea, only that what an honest reading of the Constitution actually says.

Yeah, BUT...

Unlike a Christian or Jewish, etc. state, a "Muslim state" would in all likelihood establish Sharia Law in place of the existing legal constructs, and I doubt the state would elect Congressmen and Senators to send to Washington, since Sharia Law recognizes no higher authority.

A Muslim state would be a contradiction in terms -- it would HAVE to secede from the Union.
