You have to hand it to George Lucas. So many spoofs and home made remakes have been made of Star Wars and he never sued anyone. There was also a fan made “Predator” installment where a Teutonic knight hunts the Predator. Way better than the crappy Hollywood sequels.
George commoditized it by making the Fan Film Awards, thus generating traffic to the website, and generating money. Also George remained a very approachable presence, a lot of SW fan films actually sought and got permission. And he’s sued a few folks who over stepped some lines.
