African-American males are only six percent of the United States population, but comprise nearly 70 percent of the players in the National Football League. When we focus on the sport's high collision positions, the number of African Americans playing by percentage rises substantially. Nearly 30 percent of white NFL players are kickers, punters, or quarterbacks, all positions that have a much lower chance of being involved in concussion-causing collisions. With nearly 1,200 of the NFL's 1,700 players being black, football's concussion problem is also clearly a racial problem.
For decades, young black men have laid themselves on the line for a game which has given most of them very little back in exchange. They have risked their bodies and minds to make millions for universities, and were compensated only with scholarships and the slim chance of an NFL contract. So how and why have families been tricked into sending so many young boys off to play this dangerous game? Black lives must matter on the field, as well as on the streets.

Ban football, then.
Why stop with Football? Let's also ban baseball, which is extremely dangerous. Players have been badly injured and even killed when hit by pitches traveling at 100 miles an hour. Baseball is also far more dangerous than football for the fans, since so many foul balls and home runs are hit into the stands.
We should also ban soccer, because medical research has shown that head shots--in which a player hits the ball with his head--can cause brain damage.
Tennis should also be banned because the danger of falling while chasing balls is high. I know someone who shattered her arm while playing tennis. And tennis players often develop tennis elbow, a serious medical condition.
Indeed I noticed that statistical stretch right off the bat.
Oh, give me a break!
Show me one...ONE, that played for free!
Show me one, just ONE...that was dragged onto the field in chains and forced to play the damned game.
Who writes this simpering crap?
Any financial problems any NFL player had was of their own making.
They spend the money as though it came from a bucket with no bottom.
They don't want to play?
Hit the road, jack (ass), and find another job that will pay you for chasing a damned ball around a mowed field.
I have no sympathy, none whatsoever, and throwing the damned race card into makes me even less sympathetic.
Just imagine if the powers that be put in rules stating only 13% of blacks could play college or pro football per their numbers in the general population. I would bet blacks only constitute about that number playing high school football.
The uproar about "racist rules" would be instantaneous, and the same people screaming racism because blacks get harmed would now scream racism over qualified blacks not being allowed to play. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I remember about 10-20 years ago listening to sports news on the radio, and the announcers reporting that Canada had just won a gold medal in the sprint relays at the Olympics. At first I marveled at the fact that a small, virtually all-white country like Canada could produce four white guys fast enough to win a gold medal in the sprints at the Olympics.
Then the light bulb went on in my brain...the sprinters had to black. Sure enough...as it turned out every Canadian sprinter medalist was black.
You would be correct. Some years ago I read about the post-NFL life of Jim Otto who was a white, all-pro center for Oakland. Both his knees were shot, and he could barely walk without the help of a cane. In short, he was crippled.
When asked if he'd do the whole thing over again, he said enthusiastically said yes. For him, it was worth it. It wouldn't be for me, but that's up to the individual. Otto thought the football glory was worth living the rest of his life as a cripple.
The Jetsons came out in '62-'63. A different era.
The reason blacks vastly outnumber whites on NFL defensive teams is because they are better athletes. -Tom

Forever there wasn’t enough black players in the league...now there are too many. (sheesh)

Men in other, less lucrative professions suffer similar fates. I suppose eventually all dangerous professions will be banned.
Because many of them seem to prefer football over volleyball.

It got them out of the ghetto and if they graduate, with a college degree it at least gives them a chance.........
As a side note, these kids are usually given jobs for the summer......Back in the late '80s, my manufacturing plant hired one of U of M's premier running backs two summers in a row because his mother was a shop employee........
Around the same time we also hired Central Michigan's center who was an all conference stand out because two of his aunts worked in the office. Last I heard,Duncan was an executive with an oil company and living in Europe.........So much for football...LOL!
Just giving this article the serious analysis it deserves. White people had fros too back then, just dig out your Electric Light Orchestra records from the basement and look. Then Michael Jordan shaved his head, and eveyone’s hair became a lot more relaxed. Ten years later they had to start installing air bags in cars. Today our athletes are getting brain damage. Coincidence? I don’t think so.
