A half-dozen episodes in that season were shot on videotape rather than film, in a cost-cutting move by CBS. The quality is noticeably inferior.

The 6 videotaped episodes were titled:

The Twilight Zone: The Lateness of the Hour (1960);
The Twilight Zone: Static (1961);
The Twilight Zone: The Whole Truth (1961);
The Twilight Zone: The Night of the Meek (1960);
The Twilight Zone: Twenty Two (1961);
The Twilight Zone: Long Distance Call (1961)...
and then transferred to film for broadcast, which saved the producers about $5,000 per episode.

They are showing every episode, in order. I’ve scanned ahead and set several favorites to record, like “The Hunt”, and “Hocus Pocus & Frisby” where Andy Devine gets abducted by aliens and defeats them with his harmonica - but he’s such a BS artist his pals don’t believe him.

There is an episode I like, but they don’t seem to air it much, called “Midnight Sun”. Something happens to the earth’s orbit and the sun is getting hotter and hotter. People are in a panic including a woman who is about to die from the heat. At the end, it turns out that the woman is feverish and was having a nightmare. Instead, the sun is actually getting colder and everyone is going to freeze to death.

Why do I get dragged into watching it for a couple of hours when I have the full DVD set already?

Where I am on the east coast the SyFy marathon is just now beginning (at 10pm). First up, “The Invaders” with Agnus Moorehead as a lady alone in a cabin fighting off tiny alien robots.

I’ve seen every TZ episode a million times over.
Now, let me know when there’s an Outer Limits marathon, and I’ll be there!
OL used to scare the bejesus out of me as a little kid.

Thanks for letting me know. I didn’t see my first episode until after WWE but so far I’ve seen Darren from Bewitched and Dr. Smith from Lost in Space.

Serling did videotape, film, live broadcasts, etc. He was very creative.

All but a handful were shot on film 5 or 6 episodes). A Kind of Stopwatch was shot on film. I have the entire set on Blu-Ray. They look great (aside from the taped ones which still look crappy).

looks like it was shot on videotape. Did they do that back then? Looks like a cheesy soap opera.

Yes, a lot of the old Twilight Zone episodes look like that.
