Trump has âwonâ the debates by votes being cast before the debates even started. He is popular with his fan base, but the battle is for the undecided voters.
If I am an undecided voter, I am not going to be persuaded by attacks on Bill Clintonâs sexcapades or Hillaryâs bathroom breaks. I think those people want to gain some understanding of a candidateâs knowledge and positions on the issues.
I donât think Trump is particularly knowledgeable in many areas. It has been obvious even in the debates so far and will only be magnified if he goes one-on-one.
That is a very good point and one I agree with.
I would just add that you've identified one of the things that can become a real problem on political forums: most of us are more or less committed to voting against the DNC, even if not yet for the GOP, so we don't need that much convincing on that point. The uncommitted voter, however, does need persuading, and as you point out, fixating on those things is not going to win over the uncommitted.

Oceander et al. . .
“Undecided voter”? Are you shi**in’ me?
Undecided about what?
Either they get a government check or they don’t.
Either they want to stop illegal immigration or they don’t.
If they would even CONSIDER Hillary for anything other than JAIL, they would never consider voting “R”, EVER.
This election will help to decide whether America survives or not.
Either they get it, or they don’t.

Mr. Trump hasn't had to offer details in the debates, because several questions have been futuristic and silly.
When (or if) he's the nominee, it'll be good to remember that he's a graduate of Wharton's, an extremely successful businessman and author of several Best Selling books, including "The Art of the Deal."
IOW, I know that, GOP Candidate for POTUS, Donald Trump will be a quick, thorough and prepared study to handle the likes of Hillary in all debates.
Worry NOT.
Plus he will NOT be led by MSM. He will still turn debates into the direction and topics he wants, no matter the questions posed.
