5 Questions That Will Hopefully Get Answered In Season 6 of 'Game Of Thrones'

Game of Thrones is coming! New episodes of HBO's epic fantasy drama is set to return in April. And that intel makes me all kinds of happy. Like Oberyn Martell in a brothel, happy. Also, with the release of the season 6's teaser trailer - my brain has gone into hyper-drive imagining all of the the twist and turns this next season can possibly take. This has also lead me to explore the fact that I have so many unanswered questions about the Season 6 of Game of Thrones.

-snip-

Here are the questions I still have for the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. Fingers crossed they are answered.

If Jon Snow is Alive, How Did That Happen?

Keep in mind GRRM uses unreliable narrators. Consider Stannis wasn't her "hero" at all. Melisandre consistently uses him for a different purpose.

On that same point, Aegon written out of the show isn't so much a disconnect as consistent writing. "When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die."

Since the Golden Company is composed of exiles and the sons of exiles, its participation implies a network of potential supporters in Westeros

Perhaps ponder who or what is behind all these machinations and repositionings.

Doesn’t she have a use for royal blood or something?

She certainly says she does. Fire & blood, and all that jazz.

Varys, Ilyrio, and probably others have been plotting ever since Robert's Rebellion.

I'm sure someone else was plotting way before Robert's Rebellion. ;)

Varys is the obvious master plotter, and in the tv show, Varys is now positioned to smooth the way for Dany. I will grant that Varys is fat and devious, and therefore might well be GRRM's alter ego (but then again, Varys is bald and GRRM ....). But book Varys backed Viserys and Young Griff/Aegon as well. So far, he has been only slightly more successful than Melisandre in picking winners.

There is every reason at this point to believe that Dany will be the ultimate champion against the white walkers. But Dany has three dragons. Aegon the Conqueror had three dragons, and two sisters as dragon riders. It is one plausible scenario that Dany will need two companion dragon riders as well. She has two possible half brothers and one possible brother still alive.

Unless a non-Targaryen can ride a dragon.

Ok, you've got me there. The prequel "history" to the Game of Thrones period is dominated by the Blackfyre rebellions. But I don't see a thread connecting Blackfyre survivors to Aerys' happenstance madness to Robert's Rebellion to Varys' efforts at a Targaryen restoration.

The Others have been laying in wait, but I'm not sure "plotting" is their style.

If Martin fails to release book 6 before the series starts up again, I’m probably not going to watch it.

Do you think Melisandre had a practical use for Stannis? ... why did she spend so much time with SB?

Aside from the death of his brother (necessary), Wildfire soaker, ruining his marriage, causing a rift between him and his best advisor, the tactics she used to ensure he'd have zero support at Dragonstone or the Wall?

Stannis was never the mannis. He constantly displayed he wasn't qualified for the job.

It’s obvious Dany ends up on the throne. Remember Henry Tudor was called the “dragon of the North”.
She will end up married to someone who has a claim to the throne but is possibly a bastard child.

Dany is another one who constantly makes bad decisions. I don’t buy into a lot of fan theories because they’re largely based on chasing easter eggs rather than critique. It’s better to focus on what’s right in front of you, like the fact Drogon is the leader of the three. You got the Wildling Warg Backup Squad in reserve too.

GRRM constantly repeats and reinforces the same themes. I won’t keep you in suspense any longer: I alluded to Petyr Baelish.

Petyr has certainly stirred the pot, bloodily, but it’s hard to see what consequential plotting he might have been doing before Robert’s Rebellion. He would have been very young and essentially a nobody. GRRM could always pull a surprise — Petyr, for example, might have been instrumental in spreading falsehoods about Rhaegar and Lyanna — but I can’t think of anything in the books hinting at that.
