Picking a complete unknown for the VP slot would be highly risky and would further alienate the RNC who Trump will need to woo back after they have a good cry over his cinching the nomination.

A lot depends on the role he envisions for his VP. Traditionally, the VP's job is to "balance the ticket" and provide broader electoral appeal for the candidate and then assume funeral duty for the next four years.

Trump will have no shortage of superstar talent among his cabinet and senior advisors to round out his team, but the VP slot is a very special political choice, and the only other member of the executive branch who is elected. So odds are that one of his current rivals for the nomination will be the one tapped.

Not that she’s well liked by many conservatives, but Condi Rice as VP would force the Democrats to spend money in California that the D’s wouldn’t spend, otherwise.
